The grand ballroom of the Grand Plaza Hotel was spectacular, filled with crystal chandeliers, cascading white orchids, and hundreds of the city's wealthiest elites dressed in black-tie attire.

At the center of it all was Aunt Helen, wearing an emerald green silk gown and a diamond necklace that cost more than my entire three years of married life combined. She was laughing, sipping champagne, basking in the adoration of her peers.

She had no idea that her world was about to crash down.

The heavy double doors of the ballroom opened, and a sudden silence fell over the crowd.

I walked in, walking arm-in-arm with Edward Whitmore.

I was no longer the broken, exhausted girl from the hospital room. I wore a stunning, midnight-blue silk gown that perfectly complemented my posture. My hair was styled in elegant waves, my makeup flawless, highlighting the sharp elegance of my jawline. I looked every bit the billionaire heiress I was born to be. Behind us, two private security guards pushed a sleek, high-tech stroller where Hope lay sleeping soundly.

Helen’s champagne glass froze halfway to her lips. Her eyes went wide with shock, then quickly masked it with a false, patronizing smile. She stepped forward to meet us.

"Edward! Claire! Oh, my darling, you’re out of the hospital!" Helen exclaimed, her voice dripping with fake sweetness. She reached out to hug me, but I stepped back, letting her arms fall empty into the air. "And look at the little baby... though, Claire, shouldn't you be resting? And where is dear Mark? I heard some dreadful rumors..."

"The rumors are true, Helen," Grandpa said, his voice echoing slightly in the immediate area as people leaned in to listen. "Mark and his mother are currently sitting in a jail cell. And we are here tonight to ensure they have some proper company."

Helen’s smile faltered, a flash of panic crossing her eyes. "Edward, really, this isn't the time or place for family drama—"

"Oh, it is exactly the time," Grandpa interrupted, gesturing toward the main stage where a giant projector screen was currently displaying the charity’s logo.

Edward walked up to the stage, commanding the microphone. The entire room went dead silent.

"Ladies and gentlemen, thank you for coming tonight," Edward’s voice boomed through the speakers. "Before we begin the auction, I have a special presentation regarding the administrative management of our family trust, which funds many of the charities here tonight. I want to highlight the incredible 'work' done by our chairperson, Helen Whitmore."

Helen stood frozen at the base of the stage, her face turning a sickly shade of white.

With a clicker in his hand, Grandpa pressed a button.

The screen behind him changed. It didn't show charity metrics. It showed a massive, glowing layout of the encrypted emails between Helen and Vivian Vance. It showed the dual-authentication signatures, Helen’s private IP address, and the financial ledger showing a $500,000 "kickback" wire transfer from Mark’s shell company into Helen’s secret account.

A collective gasp echoed through the ballroom. People began to whisper furiously, pointing their phones at the screen.

"As you can see," Grandpa announced coldly into the microphone, "my sister-in-law, Helen, conspired with international criminals to steal over nine million dollars from my granddaughter's trust fund, deliberately forcing her into poverty while she was pregnant, all for a petty family grudge."

"No! This is a lie! It’s a fabrication!" Helen screamed, her voice cracking as she turned to the crowd, looking for support. But her "friends" were already stepping away from her, revulsed by the public scandal. "Edward, you can't do this to me!"

"I already have," Grandpa said.

Two detectives in plainclothes stepped out from the wings of the stage, walking straight toward Helen.

"Helen Whitmore, you are under arrest for conspiracy to commit grand larceny, wire fraud, and embezzlement," the detective said loudly, pulling her arms behind her back.

The emerald green gown looked ridiculous as she was forced into handcuffs in front of the very high society she had tried so hard to impress. She shrieked and cursed, dragging her feet as she was led out of the ballroom in total disgrace.

I stood at the back of the room, looking down at my beautiful daughter, feeling an incredible sense of vindication. The snakes in my own family had been defanged.
