CHAPTER 2: THE NIGHT OF REVENGE

Miles away, Victor's truck bounced across a rough dirt road.

The poachers were celebrating.

Drinking.

Laughing.

Certain that Emily would be dead before sunrise.

Then one of the men noticed something.

A pair of glowing eyes.

Watching from the darkness.

"Did you see that?"

Nobody answered.

Seconds later another pair appeared.

Then another.

Then dozens.

The laughter stopped.

The truck driver slammed the brakes.

Lions.

Everywhere.

The pride was following them.

Victor felt a knot tighten in his stomach.

This wasn't normal behavior.

These animals weren't hunting.

They were tracking.

Suddenly a deafening roar erupted from the darkness.

The lions charged.

Chaos exploded.

Men jumped from the truck.

Weapons fired.

The savannah echoed with gunshots.

But panic spread faster than bullets.

The lions attacked the vehicles, surrounding them and preventing escape.

Victor and his men fled on foot.

For hours they ran through the darkness.

Terrified.

Exhausted.

Separated.

One by one they vanished into the night.

Meanwhile, back at the tree, Leo remained beside Emily.

The lionesses sat nearby like silent guards.

No hyenas approached.

No predators came near.

The pride protected her.

Emily could barely understand what was happening.

The giant lion stayed beside her all night.

Whenever danger approached, he growled softly.

Almost reassuringly.

As dawn broke, tears filled Emily's eyes.

The animal she had once saved had somehow remembered her.

And now he was saving her life.

Then she heard something else.

Helicopters.

Search teams.

Rescue crews.

They had finally found her.

But what happened next stunned everyone.

As rescuers approached, Leo stepped in front of Emily.

Not aggressively.

Protectively.

As if refusing to leave until he knew she was safe.

The rangers stood frozen.

Nobody had ever witnessed anything like it.

Slowly Emily reached out.

Her trembling hand touched the lion's mane.

"It's okay," she whispered.

"I'm safe now."

For several long seconds, Leo stared at her.

Then the mighty lion turned around.

The pride followed him.

Together they disappeared into the golden grasslands.

Leaving behind dozens of speechless witnesses.

But the story wasn't over.

May you like

Because Victor Kane was still missing.

And he was more dangerous than ever.
