CHAPTER 1 — "GET ON THE GROUND!"

The morning started like every other Tuesday.
Daniel Carter, a 42-year-old high school history teacher, kissed his wife goodbye, grabbed his coffee, and drove toward school while rehearsing the lesson he planned to give his students.
He had no idea his life was about to collapse.
As he stopped at a red light, flashing blue and red lights suddenly exploded behind him.
One police cruiser.
Then two.
Then six.
People on the sidewalks stopped walking.
Drivers rolled down their windows.
Daniel frowned.
"What is happening?"
Before he could even step out, armed officers surrounded his car with rifles raised.
"Driver! Turn off the engine! Put your hands outside the window NOW!"
Daniel froze.
"There... there must be some mistake."
"DO IT!"
His hands trembled.
Within seconds, officers smashed his driver's window.
Glass exploded across his lap.
Someone yanked the door open.
Another officer dragged him face-first onto the pavement.
His cheek scraped against the asphalt.
Pain shot through his shoulder as cold handcuffs snapped around his wrists.
"I haven't done anything!"
No one listened.
A crowd gathered instantly.
Phones appeared.
Someone started livestreaming.
People whispered.
"That's him..."
"The bank killer..."
"I heard he murdered a security guard."
Daniel's heart nearly stopped.
"What? No! I've never even been inside that bank!"
But every explanation sounded like another lie.
An officer pulled a photograph from his pocket.
The surveillance image showed a masked robber leaving the crime scene.
The man's build...
Hair...
Beard...
Even the small scar near his eyebrow...
Looked almost identical to Daniel.
"You have the right to remain silent."
"I'M NOT HIM!"
His wife Emily arrived only minutes later after receiving a frantic phone call.
She pushed through the crowd.
"DANIEL!"
Two officers restrained her.
She screamed while watching her husband shoved into the police vehicle.
Their twelve-year-old daughter Lily climbed out of the family car behind her mother.
"Dad!"
Daniel looked through the patrol car window.
His daughter's terrified face shattered him more than the handcuffs ever could.
As the convoy drove away...
Hundreds of comments flooded social media.
"Monster arrested."
"Justice finally served."
"He fooled everyone."
Within one hour...
Daniel had already been convicted by the internet.
Little did anyone know...

The real criminal was calmly watching the entire arrest on television.
And he couldn't stop smiling.
