Chapter 2 - The Silent Execution

The atmosphere inside Conference Room Three didn't just turn cold—it froze.

Alejandro’s breath hitched in his chest as his eyes remained locked on the navy-blue baby carrier resting in Valeria’s left arm. He had spent his entire life dominating boardroom battles, negotiating multi-million-dollar real estate developments, and bending powerful men to his will. But facing his wife—standing tall in her simple cream blouse, carrying an eleven-day-old infant—he felt a phantom weight crushing his lungs.

Beside him, Paola’s glossy lips parted in disbelief. Her manicured hands tightened around her Chanel handbag. She had insisted on coming today, asserting her newfound status as the future leading lady of the Castañeda Empire. She had expected a broken, weeping woman begging for a meager alimony settlement. Instead, she was looking at a ghost who radiated terrifying, absolute serenity.

"Valeria..." Alejandro stammered, his voice lacking its trademark authority. "What is the meaning of this? You brought... him... here?"

"His name is Mateo," Valeria replied, her voice soft yet piercing like a razor blade through silk. She didn't look at Alejandro. She looked directly at Paola, whose artificial composure was rapidly cracking. "And he is the legal heir to everything you claim to own, Alejandro. But don't worry, we aren't here for your sympathy. We are here for your signature."

Arturo, Alejandro’s young hotshot lawyer, cleared his throat frantically, dabbing a handkerchief against his damp forehead. "Mrs. Castañeda... this is highly irregular. Bringing a newborn to a formal financial dissolution hearing—"

"Is entirely legal," interjected Mr. Garza, his deep, gravelly voice commanding total silence. The veteran attorney placed a thick black leather binder onto the polished mahogany table with a heavy, deliberate thud. "My client gave birth eleven days ago via an emergency procedure while her legal husband was vacationing in Saint-Tropez under the guise of an 'investor conference.' If anyone here wishes to discuss morals or legal compliance, I suggest you think very carefully before opening your mouth, young man."

Paola scoffed loudly, attempting to regain her dominant footing. "Let’s not get dramatic, Mr. Garza. Alejandro offered your client a very generous severance package—three million dollars, a condo in Guadalajara, and full medical coverage for the child. That is more than enough for a woman who contributed nothing to the growth of Castañeda Enterprises."

Valeria didn't flinch. She gently set the baby carrier down on a velvet chair beside her, double-checking Mateo's blanket before turning to look at Paola. A slow, haunting smile touched her lips.

"A severance package?" Valeria whispered. "Paola, darling... you speak as if I were an employee who got fired. But you forgot one crucial detail."

Valeria motioned to Mr. Garza, who unzipped his leather binder and pulled out a stack of original, yellowed legal documents bearing official government stamps from eight years ago.

"Before Alejandro built his empire," Valeria said, stepping closer to the table, "he was a broke, ambitious architect with a dream and three debt-collection lawsuits against him. Who funded his first land acquisition in Querétaro? Who put up her late father’s coffee estate as collateral so the bank would grant him his first commercial loan?"

Alejandro’s face drained of what little color remained. "Valeria, don't..."

"In section four of our prenuptial agreement," Mr. Garza declared, sliding a document across the table directly toward Arturo and Alejandro, "it clearly states that any asset acquired using the primary capital generated from the ancestral estate of the De La Vega family remains fifty-one percent the sole property of Mrs. Valeria De La Vega Castañeda. In other words..."

Mr. Garza leaned forward, his sharp hawk-like eyes locking onto Alejandro.

"...you don't own Castañeda Enterprises, Mr. Castañeda. Your wife does."
