Chapter 5 - The Master’s Trap

The doors opened once more, and a man wrapped in a heavy velvet cloak stepped into the ruined ballroom. When he pushed back his hood, Julian let out a choked sound of sheer disbelief.
It was Prime Minister Vance—the head of the High Council, and Julian’s godfather.
"Forgive me, Julian," the Prime Minister said, his voice weary but firm. "But a wise politician knows when to switch sides. When Her Highness presented me with the evidence of your father’s secret deals with the Northern Empire, I realized the Sterlings were no longer an asset. You were a liability."
The realization hit the remaining guests like a thunderbolt. Elena hadn't just been hiding. She had been playing a grand game of chess from the servant's quarters, turning her enemies against each other, using their own greed as the ultimate bait. She had allowed the Sterlings to reach the absolute peak of their arrogance, only to pull the rug out from under them on the night of their greatest triumph.
"Take them away," Elena ordered, pointing to Bartholomew and Julian. "Lock them in the deepest dungeons of the palace. The same dungeons where they left my people to starve."
"You're a monster!" Julian screamed as the royal soldiers dragged him away, his pristine tuxedo tearing against the broken glass on the floor. "You're no better than us!"
Elena watched them go, her face a mask of stone. The remaining nobles in the room immediately dropped to their knees, trembling, desperate for mercy.
"Your Highness! We didn't know!" the count pleaded. "We were forced to comply! Please, spare our families!"

Elena walked to the center of the ballroom, the midnight-blue sash catching the light of the remaining chandeliers. She looked at the terrified elite who had ignored her for years.
The Hook: "Mercy is earned, not begged for," Elena announced. "Tonight, you will all remain in this house. Because tomorrow, the true execution begins."
