Chapter 2 - The Secret Text Message That Exposed the Monster Behind the Veil

The silence in the garden was deafening, even over the soft mariachi music playing in the distance. Carmen stood frozen, staring at the two cheap, plastic folding chairs tucked away next to the grease-stained kitchen doors. Her parents, structural pillars of her life who had sacrificed everything working at a local bakery to send her to law school, were being treated like garbage.

Just then, her fiancé, Alejandro, walked up behind her, smelling of expensive cologne and high-end whiskey. He wrapped his arms around her waist, completely oblivious to the storm brewing inside her.

"There you are, my beautiful bride," Alejandro whispered, kissing her neck. "Fifteen minutes. Are you ready to become a part of the most powerful family in Cuernavaca?"

Carmen pulled away slowly, her eyes burning. She pointed a shaking finger at the service entrance. "Alejandro... what is that? Where are my mother and father?"

Alejandro’s smile faltered for a fraction of a second before twisting into an annoyed, dismissive smirk. "Oh, that? Carmen, let's be realistic. My father invited the governor, supreme court judges, and international investors. Your parents... they are sweet, but they don't know how to act in high society. They'd feel uncomfortable at the head table. I did them a favor by putting them somewhere quiet where they can just relax."

"A favor?!" Carmen’s voice cracked, but she forced herself to keep it down so the guests wouldn't hear. "You hid them next to the trash cans, Alejandro! We agreed on equal seating!"

"We agreed to do what’s best for my family's image!" Alejandro snapped, his true colors bleeding through his handsome facade. "Don't cause a scene, Carmen. My mother spent millions on this wedding. Just smile, walk down the aisle, and let it go. It’s just a couple of chairs."

He walked away to greet a wealthy politician, leaving Carmen drowning in a sea of betrayal. But the worst was yet to come.

As Carmen stood there, trembling, Valeria stepped forward. Her maid of honor looked physically sick.

"Carmen... it’s worse than you think," Valeria whispered, tears welling in her eyes. "I didn't just find the chairs. I found this."

Valeria handed Carmen a phone. It belonged to Alejandro's sister, Sofia, who had accidentally left it on the bridal suite vanity while helping Carmen with her veil earlier. The phone screen was unlocked, displaying a WhatsApp group chat titled “The De la Vega Legacy.”

Carmen’s eyes scanned the texts sent just an hour ago by Alejandro's mother, Doña Elena:

"I have successfully moved the baker and his wife to the back. The catering staff knows not to serve them the premium champagne. We cannot let our distinguished guests know Alejandro married into poverty. If they don't like it, they can leave through the back door they are sitting next to."

The next message was from Alejandro himself:

"Good job, Mom. Carmen is clueless. Once the marriage certificate is signed today, her family's bakery land legally transfers to our development firm anyway. She won't be able to do a thing. Let them sit in the dirt where they belong."

Carmen felt the blood drain from her face. Her breathing stopped. The wedding wasn’t a celebration of love. It was a calculated, predatory trap to humiliate her family and steal the prime commercial land her parents owned.

She looked up at the glittering chandeliers, then down at her grandmother's ring. “A marriage is built on respect,” the old voice echoed in her mind.

With exactly ten minutes left before the wedding march, Carmen looked at Valeria. The sadness in her eyes vanished, replaced by a cold, terrifying flame of pure vengeance.

"Valeria," Carmen said, her voice dropping to a deadly, calm whisper. "Change of plans. We are going to give the De la Vega family the wedding they truly deserve."
