Chapter 4 - The War for Pier 9The morning fog hung thick over the Boston harbor as four black SUVs rolled silently onto the wet asphalt of Pier 9. The sun had barely broken the horizon, casting a pale, dreary light over towering stacks of steel shipping containers.

Arthur Whitaker stepped out of the lead vehicle, flanked by his chief legal advisor, Richard Hayes, and eight heavily armed private security contractors dressed in tactical gear.

"Secure the perimeter," Arthur ordered, adjusting his dark wool coat. "If any of Moretti’s men try to block the gates, use force. We have the legal injunction."

The team moved quickly toward the main administration building. However, as they approached the front entrance, the heavy iron gates behind them suddenly swung shut with a deafening metallic screech.

Automated locks clicked into place.

Arthur spun around, his heart skipping a beat. "What the hell was that?"

Before his men could answer, the industrial floodlights mounted on the shipping containers flashed on all at once, blinding Arthur’s team with brilliant white light. The heavy hum of high-voltage generators filled the chilly morning air.

From behind a row of blue shipping containers, a single figure walked out into the open.

Gabriel Moretti was dressed in a tailored charcoal coat, holding a burning cigarette between his fingers. He walked with an easy, deliberate grace, totally unfazed by the eight armed men pointing assault rifles directly at his chest.

Behind him emerged twenty men in dark suits—Marco among them—all holding silenced submachine guns held at low-ready positions.

"Good morning, Arthur," Gabriel said smoothly, taking a drag from his cigarette and exhaling a thin cloud of gray smoke into the fog. "You’re up early."

Arthur’s lawyer nervously clutched his briefcase, stepping behind Arthur. "Moretti! We are here to enforce the contractual clause regarding Pier 9! Your breach of the engagement agreement automatically forfeits—"

"Shut up, Hayes," Gabriel cut him off without raising his voice. "Lawyers don't speak on my docks."

Arthur stepped forward, trying to maintain an imposing posture despite being surrounded. "Gabriel, you’re playing a dangerous game. The contract you signed with my company is ironclad. You broke the engagement without valid cause under section 12. Pier 9 belongs to Whitaker Shipping now."

"Does it?" Gabriel asked, a slight smirk playing on his lips. He raised his hand, gesturing to Marco.

Marco tossed a thick stack of documents onto the hood of Arthur’s SUV.

"What is this?" Arthur demanded, frowning.

"That," Gabriel explained calmly, "is a criminal indictment filed two hours ago with the Federal District Court of Massachusetts. It details forty-two instances of human trafficking, illegal arms smuggling, and tax evasion executed through Whitaker Shipping over the last six years."

Arthur’s face paled instantly. "That's impossible... Those records are encrypted on a private server in Switzerland!"

"They were encrypted," Gabriel corrected him. "Until your daughter decided to use her personal laptop on my estate's secure Wi-Fi network last month. Did you really think I didn't mirror her hard drive the second she moved into my house?"

Arthur felt a cold sweat break out across his forehead. "You... you set her up?"

"I didn't set anyone up," Gabriel said, tossing his cigarette butt onto the wet ground and crushing it beneath his shoe. "I offered Camille a chance to prove she was worthy of sitting beside me. Instead, she proved she was arrogant, cruel, and foolish enough to bring stolen federal evidence into my home."

"You can't submit those documents without incriminating yourself!" Arthur sneered, trying to find a leverage point. "Your logistics companies handle our freight! If I go down, you go down with me!"

Gabriel took a step closer, his eyes locking onto Arthur’s with terrifying clarity.

"Check page ten of that indictment, Arthur," Gabriel whispered. "Every single shipment carrying contraband was signed off exclusively by you and your daughter. My signature appears nowhere. I run a clean operation here. You were just the parasite hiding under my shadow."

Arthur stepped back, his chest heaving as panic finally broke through his composed facade. "Lower your weapons!" he shouted desperately to his security guards. "Lower them now!"

The contractors hesitated before slowly pointing their rifles toward the ground. They knew when they were hopelessly outmatched.

"You have two hours, Arthur," Gabriel said, turning his back on them. "Two hours to gather whatever assets you have left in this city and get on a plane to a country without an extradition treaty. If you are still in Boston by noon, the FBI won't even need to arrest you... because my men will find you first."

"Gabriel! Wait!" Arthur screamed, taking a desperate step forward, but Marco immediately shifted his weapon, locking the barrel onto Arthur’s forehead.

"He said two hours, Mr. Whitaker," Marco said coldly. "I'd suggest you spend the first thirty minutes driving to the airport."

As Gabriel walked back toward his vehicle, his phone vibrated in his pocket. He pulled it out and answered.

"Speak."

"Mr. Moretti," a voice came through the encrypted line. "This is Dr. Vance from the clinic. Elena Brooks is awake. She requested to speak with you regarding the incident last night. She says there’s something about Miss Whitaker that you need to know immediately."

Gabriel paused beside his car door, his eyebrows knitting together. "What kind of something?"

"She says Miss Whitaker didn't just pour the tea to punish her," Dr. Vance replied. "She says Miss Whitaker slipped something into your scotch glass right before the argument started."
