CHAPTER 3 — The Bride Who Refused to Die

Emma did not scream.

She did not cry.

She sat on the marble floor in her soaked wedding dress, shaking from the cold, while Daniel performed panic for the cameras.

But inside her chest, something colder than the pool began to grow.

A decision.

Daniel reached for her hand.

"Emma, baby, I was so scared."

She slowly pulled away.

The entire rooftop went silent.

Then Emma looked at the waitress and whispered,

"Send that video to every guest here."

Daniel's face changed instantly.

For the first time that night, his perfect mask cracked.

"What video?" he asked.

Emma smiled weakly.

"The one where you waited for me to drown."

Gasps spread through the crowd like fire.

The blonde woman in the silver dress, Vanessa Hale, quickly stepped backward, trying to disappear between the guests.

But Emma saw her.

"Stop her," Emma said.

Two security guards blocked Vanessa near the elevator.

Daniel stood up, furious.

"Emma, you're confused. You almost drowned. You're in shock."

Emma looked at him with trembling lips.

"No, Daniel. I was in love. That was the shock."

Then the waitress opened the black envelope.

Inside was the insurance policy.

Fifty million dollars.

Emma's name.

Daniel's signature.

And Vanessa's name listed as the private witness.

The crowd exploded.

Phones lifted.

Guests whispered.

Daniel's investors stared at him like he had become poison.

Then Emma noticed something even stranger.

At the bottom of the policy, there was one more signature.

A signature she recognized.

Her father's.

But her father had died six years ago.

Emma's blood turned cold.

Because if her dead father had signed that document...

Then someone had been using his name for years.

And Daniel wasn't just trying to kill her.

He had married her to steal a secret her family had buried long before she ever met him.
