CHAPTER 6 – "The Mother Everyone Buried Alive"

Emma's world shattered.

The old butler's gun never wavered.

"Your mother didn't die," he repeated. "She planned everything."

Richard stepped in front of Emma.

"If you want to shoot someone, shoot me."

The butler smiled.

"You still don't understand, Mr. Ashford."

"I've protected your family for thirty-two years."

"And every lie I told... was to keep all of you alive."

Sirens echoed outside.

Police surrounded the burning archive.

The butler slowly lowered his weapon.

"I don't work for the Ashfords."

"I work for the woman who built them."

Before anyone could stop him, he tossed a flash grenade onto the floor.

A blinding light filled the room.

When the smoke cleared...

The butler had disappeared.

Two days later...

Richard, Emma, and Detective Mason followed the only clue they had left.

A remote church hidden deep in the mountains.

According to the old records, a woman had lived there for twenty-two years under a false name.

No photographs.

No fingerprints.

Only one nickname.

The Widow.

As they entered the quiet chapel, an elderly nun approached them.

She looked directly at Emma.

"I've been waiting for you."

Emma's heart raced.

"You... know who I am?"

The nun nodded.

"I held you in my arms the night you were born."

Richard froze.

"What?"

The nun led them into a small room beneath the church.

On the wall hung dozens of photographs.

Emma as a little girl.

Richard at business meetings.

Victoria.

The nanny.

Even baby Noah.

Someone had been watching them for decades.

Then the nun opened an old wooden chest.

Inside was a faded diary.

Across the cover were the words:

"For My Daughter, Emma."

Emma's hands shook as she opened the first page.

It was her mother's handwriting.

"If you're reading this, it means they failed to kill me... but they succeeded in stealing our lives."

Tears streamed down Emma's face.

Page after page revealed the truth.

Richard's father had secretly created the Ashford Succession Program—not to protect the family's fortune, but to guarantee that only one heir would ever inherit it.

Children were swapped.

Birth records were forged.

Anyone who discovered the truth disappeared.

Emma was marked for death the day she was born.

But her mother escaped with her before the killers arrived.

Richard whispered,

"My father..."

"He murdered his own blood."

The nun slowly closed the diary.

"No."

"He ordered the murders."

"But someone else enjoyed carrying them out."

At that moment...

The church doors burst open.

Heavy footsteps echoed through the sanctuary.

An elegant woman dressed in black entered, surrounded by armed bodyguards.

Her silver hair shimmered in the candlelight.

Richard's face drained of color.

"It can't be..."

Emma stared at the stranger.

The woman smiled warmly.

"My dear granddaughter..."

"It's finally time we met."

Richard fell to his knees.

"No..."

"You died twenty-five years ago."

The woman laughed softly.

"The world buried me."

"But I've been running the Ashford empire from the shadows ever since."

Then she looked straight at Emma...

And whispered the words that changed everything.

"I didn't come to save you."

May you like

"I came to finish what your mother started."
