Chapter 2 - The Poisoned RevengeThe eviction of Vanessa and Richard Whitmore was the scandal of the century in the exclusive enclave of Crestview Heights. Moving vans blocked the driveway within days, while tabloid photographers captured images of Vanessa hauling designer suitcases out in the rain.

Elena, however, took no joy in the spectacle. She was a nurse; her instinct was to heal, not destroy. Even after moving into the estate with Mia and Margaret, Elena continued working her grueling 12-hour shifts at St. Jude’s Memorial Hospital.
“You don’t have to work anymore, Elena,” Margaret told her over breakfast one morning. “You have millions in trust.”
“I love my work, Margaret,” Elena replied gently, kissing Mia’s head before packing her lunchbox. “I didn't become a nurse for the money, and I won't quit because of it. Mia needs to see that real worth comes from what you give to the world, not what’s in your bank account.”
But Vanessa Whitmore was consumed by a burning, toxic need for vengeance.
Stripped of her wealth and forced to move into a rented two-bedroom apartment on the outskirts of the city, Vanessa spent her days plotting Elena’s destruction. She knew she couldn't fight Margaret legally—the matriarch’s legal team was impenetrable.
She had to strike at Elena’s pride: her medical license.
Two weeks later, Elena arrived at St. Jude’s for her shift, only to be intercepted by Security and the Head of Nursing, Chief Administrator Dr. Victor Thorne.
“Elena, step into my office immediately,” Dr. Thorne said, his face grim.
Inside the glass-walled office, two internal investigators sat waiting. On the desk lay a sealed envelope and a stack of medical records.
“Elena Callahan,” Dr. Thorne began, “an anonymous tip backed by audited hospital inventory logs was delivered to the State Medical Board this morning. It alleges that over the past six months, high-grade narcotic painkillers—specifically Fentanyl and Dilaudid—have gone missing from the ICU automated dispensing cabinet during your assigned shifts.”
Elena felt the room spin. “What? That’s impossible! I double-check every single wasting protocol with a witness!”
“We conducted a surprise search of your staff locker twenty minutes ago,” one investigator said calmly, sliding a clear plastic bag across the desk.
Inside the bag were six unopened vials of liquid morphine.
Elena gasped, clutching her chest. “I... I never touched those! Someone planted them in my locker!”
“The State Board has issued an immediate temporary suspension of your nursing license pending a formal criminal inquiry,” Dr. Thorne announced coldly. “Turn in your badge and clear your desk.”
As Elena walked out of the hospital in tears, her badge confiscated, she spotted a sleek black SUV parked across the street. The window rolled down slightly, revealing Vanessa Whitmore wearing oversized sunglasses, a sinister smirk playing on her lips.

Vanessa pulled out her phone and sent Elena a text:
“How does it feel to be at the bottom, nurse? Let’s see how much your precious little girl respects you when you’re wearing a orange jumpsuit.”
