Chapter 4 - The Boardroom AmbushArmed with the truth, Elena’s shock transformed into pure, unyielding resolve. They hadn't just attacked her career; they had targeted her character and tormented her innocent seven-year-old child.

The time for soft-spoken compliance was over.
Two days later, Vanessa and Richard Whitmore convened an emergency shareholder meeting at Whitmore Holdings headquarters downtown. Vanessa had mobilized three distant board members, presenting a psychiatric evaluation alleging that Margaret Whitmore was suffering from advanced senile dementia and lacked the mental capacity to manage the family trust.
“Ladies and gentlemen of the board,” Vanessa announced from the head of the boardroom table, clad in a power suit she had purchased on credit. “My mother-in-law has been manipulated by a rogue healthcare worker who staged a drug theft scandal. Margaret is incompetent. We must revoke her authority immediately and restore stability to the firm.”
The board members murmured in agreement, pen tips hovering over the votes to strip Margaret of her voting power.
Suddenly, the double mahogany doors of the boardroom swung wide open.
Margaret walked in—not hobbling on her cane, but holding it with commanding elegance. Beside her walked Elena, dressed in a sharp, tailored navy suit, holding a thick leather dossier. Behind them was a team of four high-powered corporate defense attorneys led by Arthur Vance.
“If you sign those papers, gentlemen,” Margaret announced in a voice that rang through the acoustic chamber, “you will all be named co-conspirators in a federal corporate fraud lawsuit.”
Vanessa sprang from her chair. “Security! Remove these intruders! Elena Callahan is under criminal investigation!”
“Not anymore,” Elena said smoothly, stepping up to the center of the table.
Elena opened her dossier and projected a digital file onto the boardroom screens.
“This is the internal audit log from St. Jude’s Hospital’s pharmacy network,” Elena declared. “The security camera footage outside my locker was mysteriously erased between 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM last Tuesday. However, the automated facial recognition software at the hospital’s service entrance recorded a visitor entering with an administrator's badge during that exact window.”
Elena tapped the screen. A high-definition image popped up.
It was Vanessa’s husband, Richard Whitmore, wearing a surgical mask and medical scrubs, carrying a black duffel bag toward the staff locker rooms.
Vanessa’s face lost every drop of color.
“And how did Richard get an admin badge?” Elena continued, her eyes fixed on Dr. Victor Thorne, who was sitting at the far end of the boardroom table as an guest observer. “Because Dr. Thorne’s private offshore account in the Cayman Islands received a $200,000 wire transfer from Richard Whitmore’s offshore subsidiary three days prior.”
The room erupted into chaos. Board members leapt up from their seats.
“This is a lie! Fabrications!” Richard shouted, his voice cracking with desperation.

“The FBI cyber-crimes unit disagrees,” Arthur Vance said, opening the door wider.
Two federal agents in dark suits walked into the boardroom, badges displayed.
