CHAPTER 5 – THE WOMAN THEY BURIED... NEVER DIED

The abandoned warehouse stood in complete silence.
Rain hammered the rusted roof as Isabella stepped inside, clutching the silver key.
She came alone.
Just as the kidnapper demanded.
"Ethan... stay back," she whispered into her phone before turning it off.
A single spotlight illuminated the elderly maid, still tied to a chair.
She looked weak...
But strangely calm.
The masked figure slowly emerged from the shadows.
"You actually came."
"I knew you would."
Isabella raised the silver key.
"Let her go."
"You want this?"
"Take it."
The masked figure laughed.
"Oh, Isabella..."
"I don't want the key."
"I want what's behind the vault."
Before Isabella could react, dozens of armed men stepped out of the darkness.
Every exit was blocked.
The old maid suddenly shouted,
"RUN!"
But it was too late.
The masked leader removed his hood.
Isabella froze.
It wasn't someone she recognized.
It was a woman.
Elegant.
Confident.
Around sixty years old.
She smiled.
"My name is Eleanor Blackwood."
"You've spent your whole life believing your mother died twenty-six years ago."
She slowly opened a leather folder and placed a faded newspaper on the table.
The headline read:
"ELIZABETH HARTWELL'S BODY NEVER RECOVERED."
Isabella frowned.
"That's impossible."
Eleanor slid another photograph across the table.
It showed a woman standing on a balcony in Switzerland...
Taken only three months earlier.
The woman looked older.
Her hair was gray.
But those eyes...
Isabella knew them instantly.
They were her mother's.
Tears streamed down her face.
"My mother..."
"She's alive..."
The old maid closed her eyes.
"I wanted to tell you."
"But your mother made me promise."
Eleanor smiled coldly.
"Elizabeth didn't disappear because she was afraid."
"She disappeared because she stole something worth billions."
"The Hartwell fortune was never the real prize."
"It was the formula."
"What formula?" Isabella asked.
Eleanor leaned forward.
"The formula your grandfather created."
"A biotechnology discovery capable of saving millions of lives..."
"...or making one corporation richer than entire countries."
The room fell silent.
Everything Isabella believed about her family's fortune had been a lie.
This was never about inheritance.
It was about controlling the most valuable scientific discovery in the world.
Suddenly...
A gunshot echoed through the warehouse.
Everyone turned.
Ethan burst through the side entrance with a tactical team.
"GET DOWN!"
Chaos exploded.
Bullets shattered windows.
Smoke filled the room.
In the confusion, Eleanor escaped through a hidden tunnel.
The elderly maid collapsed into Isabella's arms.
With her final strength, she slipped a tiny gold locket into Isabella's hand.
"Your mother..."
"She's waiting..."
"...at the lighthouse."
Her hand fell limp.
"No..." Isabella cried.
"Please don't leave me..."
But the old woman smiled one last time.
"You finally know..."
"...who you really are."
As sirens echoed outside, Ethan carefully opened the gold locket.
Inside wasn't a photograph.
It was a tiny memory card.
May you like
And engraved beneath it were six chilling words that changed everything once again:
"TRUST NO ONE... NOT EVEN ETHAN."
