CHAPTER 7 – THE WOMAN WHO RETURNED FROM THE DEAD HAD BEEN PLANNING THIS ALL ALONG

The gun trembled in the old maid's hands.
Every pair of eyes turned toward her.
Isabella couldn't believe what she was seeing.
"You... you're alive."
The elderly woman smiled softly.
"I had to die."
"It was the only way to fool The Circle."
Before anyone could react, she fired one shot into the air.
The armed men outside instantly aimed their rifles at the lighthouse.
"Drop your weapons!" Ethan's father shouted through a loudspeaker.
Instead...
The old maid laughed.
"You still don't understand, Victor."
"You've already lost."
Victor frowned.
"What are you talking about?"
She pressed a small remote hidden inside her sleeve.
Suddenly...
Every television screen in the city interrupted its regular programming.
News stations.
Billboards.
Social media livestreams.
Even the giant screens in Times Square.
The entire world began watching.
A hidden archive of videos, bank records, wire transfers, secret meetings, and assassination orders appeared online.
The title across every screen read:
THE CIRCLE – 26 YEARS OF LIES
Victor's face turned ghostly white.
"No..."
"That's impossible."
The old maid smiled.
"I spent twenty-six years pretending to be weak."
"But while you were watching Elizabeth..."
"I was watching all of you."
Police headquarters.
Government agencies.
International investigators.
Journalists.
Millions of viewers watched as names of judges, politicians, billionaires, and corporate executives appeared one after another.
The Circle wasn't just a secret organization.
It was an empire of corruption.
Helicopters filled the sky.
Sirens echoed across the coastline.
Victor suddenly grabbed Elizabeth and held a pistol against her head.
"If I fall..."
"She dies."
Isabella stepped forward.
"No!"
Victor laughed.
"You really thought this story was about family?"
"It was never about your mother."
"It was about the code."
"The formula your grandfather created was hidden inside human DNA."
He looked directly at Isabella.
"Your DNA."
"The only complete copy in the world..."
"...is inside you."
Silence consumed the lighthouse.
Elizabeth slowly lifted her head.
Tears filled her eyes.
"I'm sorry, sweetheart."
"You were never just my daughter."
"You were the vault."
Victor smiled cruelly.
"Which means as long as Isabella lives..."
"I can rebuild everything."
Just then...
Ethan quietly picked up the silver key from the floor.
He looked at Isabella one last time.
"If he wants your DNA..."
"He can never have you."
Before Isabella understood what he meant...
Ethan sprinted toward Victor.
A gunshot exploded through the lighthouse.
The two men crashed through the broken glass...
Falling together toward the raging ocean hundreds of feet below.
"No!!"
Isabella screamed as she ran to the shattered window.
The waves swallowed them both.
There was no sign of Ethan.
No sign of Victor.
Only the silver key floated briefly on the surface...
Before disappearing beneath the dark sea.
Then Isabella heard her mother's trembling voice behind her.
"Ethan didn't betray you."
"He sacrificed himself..."
"...because he loved you from the very beginning."
As rescue helicopters circled overhead, Isabella dropped to her knees in tears.
But far below the cliffs...
Hidden inside a sea cave...
A pair of eyes slowly opened.
A soaked hand reached into a waterproof bag.
Inside was the silver key...
And a black folder stamped with two chilling words:
PROJECT PHOENIX
The man smiled.
It wasn't Victor.
It wasn't Ethan.
It was someone no one had seen for twenty-six years.
May you like
And he whispered only one sentence:
"Phase Two begins tonight."
