CHAPTER 2 — Every Lie Was About to Collapse

The ballroom fell silent.

Every guest turned toward the giant screens.

Ethan lunged forward.

"Turn it off!"

Too late.

The recording had already begun.

Hidden camera footage showed Ethan sitting inside his office months earlier.

Across from him sat Sabrina.

They laughed while signing documents.

Then Ethan said the sentence that destroyed the room.

"Once Grace gives birth, everything transfers to me."

Sabrina smiled.

"And after that?"

Ethan shrugged.

"She'll disappear on her own."

Guests exchanged horrified looks.

Margaret's face lost all color.

The video continued.

Another recording.

This time security footage from outside Grace's home.

Everyone watched Ethan carry two suitcases to his car while Grace begged him not to leave with their newborn.

Then...

The recording captured him shoving her onto the snow-covered porch.

The door slammed.

Someone in the audience whispered,

"My God..."

An elderly woman covered her mouth.

A man quietly stood up and walked away from the groom's side.

Then another.

Then five more.

Sabrina grabbed Ethan's arm.

"You told me those cameras were deleted!"

"They were!"

His voice cracked.

"They were!"

Grace calmly stepped toward the center aisle.

"You deleted the house recordings."

She smiled.

"But you forgot the neighbor's security system."

The projector changed again.

Bank records appeared.

Company ownership certificates.

Original incorporation papers.

Every document carried only one signature.

Grace Lawson.

Not Ethan Caldwell.

The officiant slowly closed his wedding book.

"I'm afraid..."

He looked at Ethan.

"...this ceremony cannot continue."

Guests erupted into shouting.

Reporters who had been invited to cover the luxury wedding suddenly rushed toward Grace instead.

Flashes exploded everywhere.

Questions came from every direction.

"Mrs. Lawson, were you really left outside?"

"Did he steal your company?"

"Is he under investigation?"

Grace answered only once.

"I came for the truth."

Then uniformed police officers entered through the main doors.

Not for Grace.

For Ethan.

His lawyer looked absolutely terrified.

Because another surprise had just arrived.

The lead detective held a sealed warrant.

"Ethan Caldwell..."

"You're under arrest."

Ethan laughed nervously.

"For what?"

The detective answered calmly.

"Attempted murder."

The room exploded into panic.

But Grace knew...

The biggest secret still hadn't been revealed.
