CHAPTER 6 — The Final Betrayal Came From the Person She Trusted Most

Emergency alarms echoed throughout headquarters.

Employees rushed into the hallways.

Security teams sealed every entrance.

Grace locked the journal inside a fireproof safe.

Only four people had seen it.

Victor.

Daniel.

Her assistant Emily.

And herself.

Within minutes, police confirmed that someone had remotely accessed the company's internal network.

But nothing had been stolen.

It was only a warning.

That night, Grace reviewed security footage frame by frame.

Then she noticed something strange.

Emily had entered her office after everyone left.

Only for thirty seconds.

Just long enough to photograph the journal.

Grace's heart sank.

Emily had worked beside her for almost five years.

She had been there during pregnancy.

During the divorce.

During the investigation.

Grace confronted her the next morning.

Emily burst into tears.

"I'm sorry... they threatened my family."

"Who?"

Emily slowly handed Grace a burner phone.

"It wasn't Ethan."

"The orders always came from someone called... The Chairman."

Before Grace could ask another question, every television inside the building interrupted regular programming.

Breaking News.

"Ethan Caldwell Found Dead Inside His Jail Cell."

The police called it suicide.

Grace didn't believe it for a second.

She looked at the burner phone.

It suddenly vibrated.

One new message appeared.

"Now you're the only witness left."

Grace stared at the screen.
