CHAPTER 2 — The Wife's Secret Plan Begins

At sunrise Rachel noticed footprints in the flower bed outside.
Someone had been watching the house.
Hours later...
Her phone exploded with messages.
Friends.
Former coworkers.
Even distant relatives.
Every one of them had received anonymous photographs.
Rachel sitting across the dinner table with the homeless man.
One picture looked almost romantic.
Another appeared as if Viktor had moved into the master bedroom.
Daniel had posted them online.
"My ex-wife wasted no time replacing me."
The comments poured in.
"Disgusting."
"What a downgrade."
"Poor woman lost her mind."
Rachel closed the app without replying.
Instead...
She smiled.
Because Daniel had unknowingly activated the one thing she had been waiting for.
She opened a locked cabinet.
Inside were dozens of neatly organized folders.
Company records.
Property deeds.
Investment accounts.
Old contracts.
For twenty-four years Daniel believed he had built their fortune.
He never knew the truth.
Rachel had quietly inherited millions from her late grandfather before they married.
On her lawyer's advice...
Every business Daniel thought he owned had been placed inside a family trust.
Daniel's name appeared nowhere.
She had allowed him to believe he was in control.
Now...
She made one phone call.
"Start the audit."
Across town...
Banks froze corporate accounts.
Construction projects stopped.
Luxury vehicles leased under company ownership were recalled.
Daniel's credit cards suddenly declined while checking into a five-star ocean resort.
"What do you mean declined?"
The receptionist smiled politely.
"I'm sorry, sir."
"There are no available funds."
Daniel laughed.
"There must be a mistake."
"There isn't."
His phone rang.
It was his accountant.
"Daniel..."
"We have a serious problem."
"Every company account has been locked."
"What?"
"The ownership records..."
"They belong to Rachel."
Daniel's face turned white.
Meanwhile...
Back at the house...
Rachel handed Viktor a clean shirt.
"You don't have to stay."
Viktor smiled.
"I know."
"But maybe..."
"I'd like to help you finish something."
Rachel looked confused.
"What?"
He pointed toward Daniel's untouched workshop in the backyard.
"I've spent years building other people's dreams."
"Maybe it's time we rebuild yours."
For weeks they repaired the neglected home together.
Neighbors watched.
Curiosity slowly became admiration.
Viktor fixed broken fences.
Painted walls.
Rebuilt the garden.
Rachel laughed more than she had in years.
Then one afternoon...
A black limousine stopped outside.
Everyone expected lawyers.
Instead...
Three men in expensive suits stepped out.
The oldest rushed toward Viktor.
Tears filled his eyes.
"Mr. Volkov..."
"We've searched for you for almost six years."
Rachel froze.
The man handed Viktor a thick envelope.
"Your appeal succeeded."
"The court overturned everything."
"Your partner confessed."
"Your assets have been restored."
Rachel's hands trembled.
"How much...?"
The lawyer swallowed.
"Approximately..."
"One hundred eighty-three million dollars."
Across the country...
Daniel still believed he could fix everything.
He immediately booked the next flight home.
Certain Rachel would forgive him.

He had absolutely no idea...
Who was now living in his former house.
