CHAPTER 3 — The Video From Midnight

At exactly midnight, Emily plugged the flash drive into the old television in the library.

A video file appeared.

Its title made everyone stop breathing.

“To My Murderer.”

Emily pressed play.

Her grandmother appeared on screen, frail but terrifyingly calm.

“If this video is being watched,” Eleanor said, “then Richard has already tried to run.”

Victoria covered her mouth.

Eleanor continued.

“For years, my family thought I was blind. But I installed cameras inside this house long before any of them began stealing from me.”

The screen changed.

A hidden camera showed Richard entering Eleanor’s bedroom at night.

He was not alone.

A woman followed him.

Emily’s heart dropped.

It was Aunt Victoria.

Together, they opened Eleanor’s medicine drawer.

Richard whispered, “If she changes the will tomorrow, we lose everything.”

Victoria replied coldly, “Then tomorrow never comes.”

The room exploded in screams.

Emily staggered backward.

Her grandmother had not died peacefully.

She had been betrayed by her own children.

But then Eleanor’s voice returned.

“There is one more truth. The most painful truth of all.”

Emily froze.

“Emily… you are not only my granddaughter.”

The screen went black for three seconds.

Then Eleanor whispered:

“You are the legal heir to everything because you are my only surviving child.”
