CHAPTER 8 – The Recording That Exposed Everything

Michael grabbed Margaret's hand.
"Run!"
The three of them escaped through a rusted emergency exit as bullets shattered the windows behind them.
They reached Daniel's old cabin hidden deep inside the forest—a place only the Holloway family knew.
Inside, beneath loose floorboards, they discovered one final safe.
The combination?
Margaret's birthday.
Inside sat a tiny digital recorder.
Its battery still worked.
Margaret pressed PLAY.
Daniel's voice filled the cabin.
"If anyone is hearing this... Richard has probably failed to destroy the truth."
Another voice interrupted.
Richard.
"Sign everything over, Daniel."
"Never."
Then...
A third voice entered the recording.
Margaret froze.
She knew that voice.
Michael's.
"I'm sorry, Dad... I didn't know Richard planned to fake your death."
Silence.
Then Michael burst into tears beside her.
"I was twenty-two," he sobbed.
"I owed millions to dangerous people."
"Richard promised to erase my debts."
"He told me you'd come home after a few months."
"I didn't know he'd keep you hidden for twenty-seven years."
Margaret stared at her son.
Her heart broke all over again.
Before she could answer...
A slow clap echoed through the cabin.
Richard stepped out from the shadows.
Smiling.
Completely unharmed.
"You've finally heard the whole story..."
He raised a pistol.
"But you've still missed the biggest lie."
Margaret's voice cracked.
"What lie?"
Richard smiled wider.
Then he pointed directly at Michael.
"Ask your son why Daniel took a DNA test the week before the boating trip."
The cabin fell silent.
Michael's face turned white.
Richard whispered the words that changed everything.
May you like
"Because Daniel had just discovered... Michael was never his biological son."
