🔥 CHAPTER 4 — The Secret That Changed Everything

The ambulance doors closed.

Eleonora was rushed toward the city's most advanced private hospital.

Richard climbed inside without saying another word.

The convoy disappeared.

Sophia collapsed into a chair.

"It's over..."

Her best friend whispered,

"You'll apologize."

"It'll be fine."

Neither of them believed those words.

Three hours later...

The emergency room doors opened.

A senior doctor walked toward Richard.

"Mr. Ashford..."

"Your daughter is awake."

Richard immediately entered the room.

Eleonora looked weak.

Her face was pale.

But when she saw him...

She smiled.

"Dad..."

Richard took her hand.

"I'm so sorry."

"You should never have gone back."

She shook her head gently.

"I had to."

Richard frowned.

"You promised me."

"I know."

"But I needed to know."

"Know what?"

Eleonora looked toward the window.

"For twenty years..."

"I've heard people say that wealth changes people."

"That poor people are invisible."

"That kindness disappears when money appears."

"I wanted to see whether it was true."

Richard remained silent.

"So I asked you to let me work."

"No bodyguards."

"No family name."

"No privileges."

"Just... me."

Tears filled Richard's eyes.

"And today..."

"I found my answer."

Outside the hospital room, the doctors and nurses listened in stunned silence.

One nurse whispered,

"She chose to work as a maid..."

"...even though she's one of the richest women in the country?"

Richard nodded slowly.

"She wanted people to respect her..."

"...before they respected her last name."

Eleonora gave a faint smile.

"And now I know."

"Some people treat others with kindness."

"...and some reveal who they truly are the moment they believe no one important is watching."

At that exact moment, Richard's assistant entered the room carrying a sealed envelope.

"Sir..."

"We've completed the background investigation."

Richard opened the file.

His expression changed instantly.

"What is it?" Eleonora asked.

Richard slowly looked up.

"This wasn't random."

"What do you mean?"

He placed several photographs on the hospital bed.

Security images.

Bank transfers.

Private messages.

Sophia.

Her best friend.

And someone neither of them expected...

Victor Lancaster.

Richard's voice turned cold.

"Your fall into that pool..."

"...wasn't supposed to be a prank."

"It was planned."

Eleonora stared at the evidence in horror.

Someone at the party had secretly disabled the pool's underwater safety lights and emergency alarm just hours before the celebration.

The file contained another shocking detail.

A witness had overheard Victor saying earlier that morning:

"If that troublesome maid disappears, no one will even ask where she went."

Eleonora's blood ran cold.

Richard quietly closed the file.

"I was going to destroy their business."

He looked toward the hospital window, his eyes harder than steel.

"But now..."

"This is no longer about business."

May you like

"It's about attempted murder."
