Chapter 8 - THE QUEEN’S REIGNThe private hangar in Gary, Indiana, was cold and smelled heavily of jet fuel.

Valerio Moretti sprinted toward the stairs of his Gulfstream jet, flanked by his last two remaining bodyguards. His phone buzzed violently in his pocket. He pulled it out, expecting a confirmation of his offshore transfer.

Instead, his screen flashed red: ACCOUNT BALANCE: $0.00. ASSETS FROZEN BY INTERPOL.

"No... no, no, NO!" Valerio screamed, dropping to his knees on the tarmac, clutching his hair. "MY MONEY! MY EMPIRE!"

"Looking for this, Valerio?"

A heavy spotlight snapped on, blinding Valerio. From the shadows of the hangar walked Lorenzo Duca, dressed in a flawless tailored suit, flanked by twenty armed Duca enforcers.

Beside him walked Ariana. She wore a striking white trench coat, her dark hair blowing gently in the morning wind, her face radiant, powerful, and utterly devoid of fear.

Valerio looked up at her, tears of rage mixing with the dirt on his face. "You... you devil! You ruined me!"

"You ruined yourself the day you thought you could own a person, Valerio," Ariana said, her voice echoing clearly through the massive hangar. "I spent ten years running from you because I thought you were a monster. But standing here today... I see you're just a pathetic little man who built a kingdom on broken bones."

Distantly, the sound of police sirens began to wail, approaching the airstrip fast. Interpol was coming to collect what was left of the Moretti legacy.

Valerio reached frantically into his coat for a hidden gun, but before he could pull it, Lorenzo raised his weapon and fired a single, non-lethal shot through Valerio's knee.

Valerio collapsed onto the concrete, howling in pain.

Lorenzo stepped over him, kicking the gun away. He turned his back on the broken man and extended his hand to Ariana.

"Shall we go home, Ms. Vale?" Lorenzo asked softly.

Ariana looked at his offered hand, then looked up into his eyes—eyes that held no deceit, no ownership, only profound respect and an undeniable, burning love.

She placed her hand in his. "Lead the way, Boss."

EPILOGUE: THE SHADOW QUEENSix Months Later.

The Annual Financial Summit at the Waldorf Astoria was packed with the world’s most powerful corporate leaders.

The press scrambled as the doors opened. Stepping onto the red carpet was Lorenzo Duca, looking imposing and powerful as ever. But walking right beside him, holding his hand with supreme confidence, was the newly appointed Co-CEO of Duca Holdings—Ariana Vale.

She wore a breathtaking emerald-green gown that matched her eyes, no longer hiding, no longer shrinking, and no longer wearing plain clothes to hide her light.

A reporter shoved a microphone into her face. "Ms. Vale! How did an obscure analyst rise to become the most powerful woman in international finance in less than a year?"

Ariana stopped, looked directly into the camera lens with a stunning, secretive smile, and held up her hand—where a flawless black diamond engagement ring sparkled beneath the flashbulbs.

"By learning that you don't need to hide in the shadows," Ariana said smoothly, "when you own the room."

Lorenzo leaned down, pressing a tender kiss to her temple, whispering for only her to hear, "And when you own the king."
