CHAPTER 4 — “The Bride’s Final Wedding Gift”

Edward Cross lunged toward the bride.

“Turn that off!”

But she stepped back and lifted the phone higher.

“No.”

Her voice was calm now.

Terrifyingly calm.

“You lied to me, Adrian. But your father tried to bury a child.”

The guests began backing away as the men in dark suits entered the ballroom.

Then suddenly, police sirens screamed outside.

Edward’s face changed for the first time.

Fear.

The bride looked straight at him.

“You really thought I was just a pretty woman in a wedding dress?”

She removed her diamond bracelet and dropped it on the floor.

“My brother is a federal prosecutor.”

The ballroom erupted.

The men tried to run, but officers stormed through every entrance.

Edward shouted that it was all a misunderstanding.

But the elderly woman handed the police one final envelope.

Inside was a recorded phone call.

Edward’s voice was clear:

“Make the mother disappear. The child too.”

Adrian collapsed into a chair, broken.

The little girl looked at him, tears running down her cheeks.

“Did you know about Mommy?”

Adrian shook his head, crying for the first time in front of everyone.

“No… I swear I didn’t.”

For a moment, she said nothing.

Then she placed the silver necklace in his hand.

“Then prove it.”

The wedding never happened.

But that night, a different promise was made.

Adrian walked out of the ballroom holding his daughter’s hand…

While his father was taken away in handcuffs.
