Chapter 1 - The Blood on the Marble

HOOK: She thought the hospital cameras had a blind spot. She didn't know her own reflection would condemn her to a lifetime behind bars!

The rhythmic, agonizing beep... beep... beep of the fetal heart monitor echoed through the sterile air of Operating Room 4. Inside, Dr. Arthur Vance, the chief of maternal medicine and Khloe’s uncle, scrubbed in with trembling hands. His gown was already speckled with his niece's blood. The diagnosis was catastrophic: a severe placental abruption caused by blunt-force trauma. Every second delayed was a step closer to losing both Khloe and the unborn baby.

Outside in the corridor, the atmosphere was combustible. Marcus stood like a statue of pure fury, his knuckles white as he stared at the tablet in Security Director Daniel Cruz’s hands.

On the screen, the footage played in crystal-clear high definition. Isabella’s smug face faded into absolute horror as she watched herself on the tape. She hadn't realized that the ultra-reflective, mirrored glass of the luxury suite's outer doors acted like a perfect two-way mirror for the hallway cameras. The footage didn't just show the hallway; it clearly captured her reflection inside the room, lunging at a defenseless Khloe, dragging her by her hair, and violently throwing her against the marble edge of the nightstand before dragging her out to stage a "slip and fall."

"This is a setup! That footage is AI-generated! You doctored it!" Isabella shrieked, her voice cracking as she backed away toward the elevators. "Marcus, honey, look at me! She provoked me! She told me you never loved me, she mocked my inability to have children! I was defending my honor!"

Marcus didn't move an inch toward her. The love he once felt for Isabella had rotted into pure disgust years ago, but this was a new level of depravity. He stepped forward, his voice a low, terrifying growl that vibrated through the hallway.

"If my wife or my daughter dies today, Isabella," Marcus whispered, each word dripping with venom, "a prison cell will be the safest place for you. Because I will personally ensure your life becomes a living hell."

Right then, the elevator doors slid open. Four armed police officers stepped out, led by Detective Elena Vance—who happened to be Khloe’s cousin. The family network in this hospital ran deep, and Isabella had just walked into a lions' den.

"Isabella Montenegro?" Detective Vance asked, her handcuffs already unclipped. "You are under arrest for aggravated assault, attempted feticide, and attempted first-degree murder."

"Touch me and my lawyers will bankrupt this city!" Isabella screamed, flailing her arms as the officers grabbed her. "Marcus! Tell them! Tell them she tripped!"

As Isabella was slammed against the wall and cuffed, the red "IN SURGERY" light above Operating Room 4 began to flash violently. A harsh, continuous flatline tone pierced the air from inside the room.

Marcus turned toward the glass doors, his heart stopping. Dr. Arthur Vance looked up from the table, his eyes filled with sheer panic as he yelled for the defibrillator.
