Chapter 5 - The Coma and the Confession

HOOK: A mother's love transcends medical science. The secret Khloe whispered before she lost consciousness changes everything!

Two weeks passed. The drama had shifted from the chaotic hallways to the quiet, heartbreaking stillness of ICU Room 302.

Julian and Isabella were locked away in a maximum-security holding facility, denied bail due to the mountain of recovered digital evidence and the attempted sabotage of a medical facility. The empire they tried to steal was safe, but Marcus would have traded every single dollar to see his wife open her eyes.

In a small incubator next to Khloe’s bed lay their daughter, named Hope. She was a miracle—healthy, tiny, and breathing on her own. Marcus sat between the two most important women in his life, his face haggard and hollowed out from sleepless nights.

Dr. Arthur Vance walked in, checking Khloe's vitals with a heavy sigh. "Physically, Marcus, her body is healing perfectly. The surgery repaired the uterine damage. But neurologically... she's withdrawing. It’s as if her mind is refusing to come back to reality after the trauma."

Marcus took Khloe’s limp hand, placing it gently against the tiny, warm hand of baby Hope. "Khloe, please. Look at her. She has your eyes. She needs her mother."

Suddenly, a strange anomaly appeared on the brain wave monitor. The lines, which had been flat and sluggish, began to spike violently. Khloe’s eyelids fluttered.

"Arthur! Look!" Marcus cried out.

Khloe didn't wake up screaming or crying. Instead, a single tear rolled down her cheek. Her lips moved silently, forming words that had no sound. Marcus leaned down close, his ear almost touching her lips.

"Isabella... didn't come for me," Khloe whispered, her voice barely a thread.

Marcus frowned, confused. "What do you mean, darling? We saw the video. She attacked you."

Khloe slowly opened her eyes, her gaze glassy but intensely focused. "She attacked me... because of what I found. Marcus... Isabella isn't the one who planned this. Look... look under the lining of my maternity bag. I hid it there before she caught me."

Arthur and Marcus immediately rushed to the closet, tearing open Khloe's personal belongings. Hidden deep within the double-stitched lining of her leather diaper bag was a small, encrypted flash drive.

Marcus plugged it into a tablet. What appeared on the screen made his heart stop. It wasn't financial documents or inheritance scams. It was a DNA registry from a private fertility clinic dated four years ago.

The document proved that baby Hope wasn't Marcus’s biological child through their IVF treatment. The embryos had been switched. But the biological father wasn't a stranger, and it wasn't Julian.

The biological father listed on the document was Marcus’s trusted best friend and business partner, Ethan Vance—Arthur’s own son, who had been managing the family’s estate funds.
