Chapter 1

There were exactly fifteen minutes left before the wedding march would echo through the gardens of a breathtaking estate in Cuernavaca.
The air smelled of fresh rain...
Blooming bougainvillea...
And the promise of a perfect evening.
Valeria, 28 years old, stood in front of the mirror inside the bridal suite, carefully adjusting her delicate lace veil.
Everything seemed flawless.
Outside...
More than 300 guests were taking their seats beneath an enormous white canopy illuminated by hundreds of warm lights.
A live string trio played softly while everyone waited for the ceremony to begin.
Then...
The suite door flew open.
Ximena, Valeria's cousin and maid of honor, rushed inside.
Her face was pale.
Her breathing uneven.
"Valeria..."
"You need to come to the reception hall."
"Right now."
The fear in Ximena's voice sent a chill through Valeria.
Without asking a single question...
She gathered the layers of tulle from her wedding dress...
And hurried through the stone hallways of the estate.
When she reached the reception hall...
She noticed three staff members hurriedly rearranging the place cards at the head table.
At first...
She assumed it was simply another last-minute adjustment.
Then...
She stepped closer.
And read the names written in elegant gold calligraphy.
Her heart stopped.
To the right of Alejandro's seat...
Her future husband...
Were the names of Doña Carmen and Don Roberto...
His parents.
Next to them...
Seats were reserved for his sister.
His brother-in-law.
Two uncles.
Three cousins.
A total of nine luxurious velvet chairs...
Reserved exclusively for the Castañeda family.
Valeria slowly scanned the length of the table.
Searching desperately for two names.
Don Arturo.
Doña Rosa.
Her parents.
They weren't there.
Anywhere.
Panic tightened around her chest.
She turned toward the back of the room.
Then she saw them.
Nearly fifty feet away...
Hidden behind a massive stone pillar...
Only a few steps from the swinging kitchen doors...
Sat two plain white plastic folding chairs.
No flowers.
No crystal glasses.
No elegant tablecloth.
They looked like temporary seats for catering staff...
Not the parents of the bride.
"What is this supposed to mean?"
Valeria whispered.
Her throat tightening.
The wedding coordinator hurried over...
Clearly uncomfortable.
"Mrs. Carmen requested the change about an hour ago."
"She told us it was a family decision..."
"And that the groom fully approved it."
Approved?
Alejandro approved this?
The floor seemed to disappear beneath Valeria's feet.
At that exact moment...
Doña Carmen walked into the hall.
She wore an expensive burgundy designer gown...
A string of pearls around her neck...
And a smile filled with superiority.
She glanced toward the plastic chairs...
Then looked directly at Valeria.
"Oh, don't make this into some dramatic scene, dear."
She adjusted her necklace casually.
"Your parents will be much more comfortable back there."
"They aren't exactly used to this kind of environment."
"The groom's family belongs at the front."
She laughed quietly.
"Just look at them."
"They're trying so hard to fit into a world that was never meant for people like them."
Valeria couldn't breathe.
Across the room...
She saw her father.
A humble mechanic who had spent thirty years working in a repair shop.
He wore the suit he had paid for in twelve monthly installments...
Just to walk his daughter down the aisle.
Beside him...
Her mother quietly lowered her eyes...
Trying to hide the humiliation.
Valeria searched desperately for Alejandro.
He wasn't there.
And suddenly...
Everything became painfully clear.
If he had allowed this to happen...
He wasn't simply insulting her parents.
He was showing her exactly where she would spend the rest of her married life.
At the very bottom.
Her eyes slowly settled on the crystal podium prepared for the evening speeches.
A wireless microphone rested on top.
Without hesitation...
Valeria walked toward it.
Ximena reached out...
Trying to stop her.
But it was already too late.
Valeria picked up the microphone.
Switched it on.
Then turned toward the entrance...
Where the first wedding guests were beginning to arrive.
No one inside that elegant ballroom...
May you like
Could have imagined...
What was about to happen next.
