Chapter 5 - THE SENSATIONAL TRUTH

"SHE WENT LIVE FROM THE GETAWAY CAR, AND THE SECRETS SHE EXPOSED DESTROYED A MULTI-MILLION DOLLAR EMPIRE IN MINUTES!"Sitting in the passenger seat of her father’s modest, fifteen-year-old sedan, Valeria took a deep breath. Behind them, the beautiful estate was shrinking in the rearview mirror, but the storm they had left behind was only growing.
"Are you sure about this, Val?" her mother, Rosa, asked from the back seat, her hands still shaking slightly. "These people... they have a lot of power. They can make our lives very difficult."
"They had power because we were quiet, Mama," Valeria said, her voice resolute. "They allowed us to believe that their money made them superior. But wealth is a fragile thing when it’s built on lies."
Valeria opened her Facebook app. She clicked the "Go Live" button.
Within thirty seconds, the viewer count skyrocketed. 1,000... 5,000... 20,000 viewers. The video of her wedding-hall speech had already gone viral across Mexico, and now, the "Runaway Bride" was live, still wearing her wedding dress in the front seat of a beat-up car.
"Hello, everyone," Valeria began, looking directly into the camera. "As many of you have seen, my wedding to Alejandro Castañeda did not happen today. And I want to tell you exactly why, because this isn't just about a seating arrangement. This is about a system of arrogance and corruption that needs to be exposed."
She took a deep breath, knowing there was no turning back.
"For three years, I was told to adapt. I was told that my family—decent, hard-working people—needed to be kept in the shadows so we wouldn't 'embarrass' the Castañeda name. But today, Doña Carmen Castañeda took it too far. She moved my parents to plastic chairs by the kitchen trash because she believed they didn't belong in 'their world.'"
The comment section exploded. Thousands of messages of support flooded the screen. “You are a queen!” “Proud of you for defending your parents!” “Boycott Castañeda Enterprises!”
"But it goes deeper than that," Valeria continued, her eyes narrowing. "Don Roberto Castañeda owns Castañeda Logistics, a company that claims to be built on family values. Yet, for the past year, they have been bidding on municipal contracts while secretly underpaying their manual laborers—the very same kind of hard-working people like my father. They use shell companies to hide their profits while dodging taxes, all while pretending to be the pillars of our community."
This was the card Valeria had kept up her sleeve. As a corporate accountant, she had accidentally stumbled upon certain financial discrepancies in the Castañeda family business months ago when Alejandro asked her to "take a quick look" at their tax returns. At the time, she had brushed it off, trusting Alejandro's excuses. But now, the pieces of the puzzle fit perfectly.
"I have the financial records," Valeria said calmly. "And tomorrow morning, they will be delivered directly to the tax authorities and the press. If the Castañedas believe that honest, working-class people don't belong in their world, then they shouldn't mind when their world is stripped of the illegal money they stole from those very same workers."
"Turn it off! Turn it off!" Valeria’s phone began to ring from an unknown number. She ignored it, knowing exactly who it was.
"To my father, Arturo, and my mother, Rosa," Valeria said, turning the camera to show her parents in the car. Her father smiled warmly, waving at the screen, while her mother blew a kiss. "They taught me that dignity cannot be bought. Thank you all for your support. The wedding is over, but the truth is just getting started."
She ended the live stream. The viewer count had topped 150,000 live viewers.
"Oh, mija," her father said, a tear of pride slipping down his cheek. "You really are a force of nature."
"I learned from the best, Papa," Valeria smiled.
Just then, her phone vibrated with a text message from Alejandro. “Valeria, please. My father is having a panic attack. The shares of the company are dropping. What do you want? Name your price. We will pay you whatever you want to take the video down.”

Valeria stared at the screen. A cold laugh escaped her lips. They still didn't get it. They thought everything in life had a price tag.
She began typing her reply.
