CHAPTER 4: THE WOMAN WHO CAME BACK FROM THE DEAD

The ballroom fell into complete silence.

Every pair of eyes was locked on the elderly woman in the wheelchair.

She slowly removed the black veil covering her scarred face.

William Hartwell staggered backward.

"No..."

His voice cracked.

"That's impossible."

"You died."

The woman smiled bitterly.

"No, William."

"You only left me to die."

A wave of shock swept through the guests.

The old woman introduced herself with trembling dignity.

"My name is Eleanor Hartwell."

"The first Mrs. Hartwell."

"The mother of the real Isabella."

The room exploded with whispers.

"But William said she died in the mansion fire!"

"He held a funeral!"

"He inherited everything after her death!"

Eleanor looked directly at William.

"You burned the west wing of our estate."

"You locked me inside."

"And when firefighters couldn't find my body..."

"You celebrated."

William shouted in panic.

"She's lying! Arrest her!"

But one of the detectives stepped forward.

"We've already reopened the Hartwell fire investigation."

His words froze the room.

"The anonymous evidence we received last week included fingerprints, financial records, and insurance documents."

He paused.

"They all point to one suspect."

William Hartwell.

The billionaire's knees nearly gave out.

Meanwhile, Isabella stood motionless, staring at Eleanor.

"If you're really my mother..."

"Why didn't you come back for me?"

Eleanor's eyes filled with tears.

"I searched for you every single year."

"I hired private investigators."

"I followed every rumor."

"But William changed your name..."

"Your birth certificate..."

"Even your blood records."

"He erased you from the world."

Isabella burst into tears.

For twenty-three years she had believed she was living the perfect life.

Now she realized...

Every birthday...

Every family photograph...

Every happy memory...

Had been built on someone else's stolen identity.

Suddenly, the maid reached into her old handbag.

"I have one last piece of evidence."

She carefully removed a tiny music box covered in soot.

"I found this beside the nursery the night of the fire."

Eleanor immediately began crying.

She recognized it instantly.

"It was Isabella's lullaby box..."

The detective slowly opened it.

Hidden beneath the broken mechanism...

Was a folded confession signed by someone no one expected.

Not William.

Not Eleanor.

But Adrian's own father—the family's longtime attorney.

The confession revealed a horrifying truth:

William Hartwell had never acted alone.

The conspiracy involved judges, doctors, lawyers, and even members of law enforcement.

The Hartwell fortune wasn't built on business.

It was built on murder, bribery...

And the disappearance of innocent children.

As the guests stared at the confession in horror, Adrian quietly removed his engagement ring.

He looked at Isabella with tears in his eyes.

"I don't care who your parents are anymore."

"But if we're going to survive this..."

"We'll have to destroy the Hartwell empire together."

Across the ballroom, William slowly smiled.

It wasn't the smile of a defeated man.

It was the smile of someone who still had one final secret...

A secret hidden in a vault that no one—not even Eleanor—knew existed.

And inside that vault...

Was the truth about who Isabella really was.
