Chapter 6 - THE SIEGE OF PIER 4The heavy metal exterior of Warehouse B shuddered violently as a volley of heavy automatic gunfire tore through the corrugated steel walls, sending a shower of sparks and lead flying across the interior.

"Get down!" Vittorio roared, shoving Elena behind a thick concrete structural pillar alongside Rocco and the remaining guards.

Through the bullet holes and shattered windows, the flashing red and blue lights of armored trucks painted the dark warehouse in strobing terror. Marco Moretti’s voice boomed through a powerful megaphone from the courtyard outside.

"Vittorio Amato! I know you're in there!" Moretti’s raspy, arrogant laugh echoed across the night air. "You crossed the line tonight, walking into my territory and killing my men! Hand over the woman, hand over the flash drive, and maybe—just maybe—I’ll let you crawl back to your estate with your life!"

Rocco looked over at Vittorio, his face tight with tension. "Boss, there are too many of them. If we try to shoot our way through the main gate, it'll be a bloodbath. They have heavy ordinance."

Vittorio didn't panic. His mind calculated the angles, the structural blueprint of the old naval shipyard, and the desperate clock ticking in his head. He had made a silent promise to a little boy sitting in his kitchen. I am going to bring your mother home.

"Rocco, do you remember the old storm drain tunnel running beneath the pier? The one used for smuggling back in the seventies?" Vittorio asked calmly, reloading his magazine.

Rocco’s eyes lit up. "The drainage culvert that empties straight into the bay near the lighthouse? It's flooded halfway, but it leads outside the perimeter."

"Exactly," Vittorio said, turning to Elena. She looked exhausted, terrified, but remarkably resolute. "Signora, can you swim?"

Elena nodded firmly, gripping her bruised wrists. "Yes. To get back to my son, I'd swim through fire."

"Good," Vittorio said. He turned to his chief enforcer. "Rocco, take Elena through the sub-level drainage tunnel. Get her to the black SUV waiting by the lighthouse. Drive straight back to the villa. Do not stop for anything."

"And you, boss?" Rocco asked sharply. "You're not staying behind to hold them off alone?"

A cold, fearless smile touched Vittorio's lips. "I'm going to give Moretti a little parting gift to remember me by. Go."
