Chapter 7 - THE WAREHOUSE EXPLOSIONWhile Rocco and Elena slipped silently through the sub-level grating into the dark, freezing waters of the drainage tunnel, Vittorio moved with ghost-like silence through the upper catwalks of Warehouse B.

Outside, Marco Moretti grew impatient. "Time's up, Amato! Breaching charges on the door! Blow it open!"

BOOM!

The massive steel front doors of the warehouse blew inward in a terrifying cloud of dust, shrapnel, and smoke. A wave of heavily armed Moretti mercenaries swarmed into the building, guns raised, scanning the dark corners for targets.

"Clear the floor!" one captain shouted.

At that exact moment, high up on the catwalk, Vittorio stood calmly beside the main industrial fuel valve of the warehouse's legacy heating system. He pulled a heavy wrench from his belt, smashed the valve completely open, flooding the lower level with a thick, pressurized mist of highly flammable diesel and gas vapors.

He pulled a silver Zippo lighter from his pocket, flicked it open with a sharp snap of his thumb, and watched the tiny flame dance in the dark.

"Welcome to my house, Marco," Vittorio whispered softly to himself.

He tossed the lit lighter down into the volatile mist below.

In a fraction of a second, a massive wall of blinding orange fire erupted across the entire interior of the warehouse, transforming the cavernous space into a roaring inferno. Shockwaves shattered every remaining window, sending Moretti's men scrambling backward in blind panic and absolute terror as the structure began to collapse inward.

Vittorio didn't wait to watch the aftermath. He dropped smoothly from the rear fire escape, slipping into the dark coastal fog just as the sirens of approaching fire trucks and emergency units wailed in the distance.
