CHAPTER 5 – The DNA That Changed Everything
Daniel stood frozen.
"She's... my sister?"
The words echoed through the underground chamber like a nightmare.
"It can't be true."
Lily clung tightly to his arm.
Before either of them could react, the metal door at the end of the tunnel slowly slid open.
An elderly man in a gray suit stepped out.
His name was Arthur Wells.
For forty years, he had served as the Sterling family's private attorney.
Everyone believed he had died years ago.
But he smiled calmly.
"I've been waiting for this day."
Arthur placed a sealed envelope on the table.
"Open it."
Inside were two DNA reports.
Daniel stared at the first one.
Daniel Sterling — Biological Father: Richard Sterling.
Nothing unusual.
Then he unfolded the second report.
Victoria Sterling — Biological Father: Richard Sterling.
His hands began to shake.
"No..."
Arthur nodded.
"Richard Sterling lived two separate lives."
"One family knew about the other."
"The other family never did."
Daniel looked at the marriage certificate hanging on the wall of his memory.
His entire marriage had been built on a lie.
Victoria had known the truth from the very beginning.
She had hidden it because if the truth became public, every Sterling inheritance would become illegal, and the billion-dollar empire would collapse overnight.
Daniel suddenly remembered every time Victoria refused to have children.
Every excuse.
Every delay.
Every argument.
She already knew why.
But Arthur wasn't finished.
He handed Daniel one final folder.
"It's about Emily."
Daniel opened it.
His heart nearly stopped.
Emily hadn't disappeared.
She had spent the last seven years secretly protecting Lily from the people hunting the Sterling bloodline.
