CHAPTER 4 — "The Doctor Who Was Never There"
The hospital went into total lockdown.
Every entrance was sealed.
Every elevator was stopped.
Every security camera was reviewed frame by frame.
But Lily had vanished.
Again.
Dr. Ethan Carter replayed the surveillance footage over and over, unable to believe what he was seeing.
The man who entered Lily's room wore Ethan's hospital ID badge.
He wore Ethan's lab coat.
He even had Ethan's face.
For six horrifying minutes, the cameras showed Dr. Ethan Carter walking calmly through the pediatric wing...
While the real Ethan was standing beside Detective Mason more than twenty miles away.
"That's impossible," Mason whispered.
"It gets worse," the technician replied.
Facial recognition confirmed a 99.8% match.
The hospital computer system also showed Ethan's security badge opening four restricted doors during the exact same time.
Someone had perfectly cloned his identity.
Within an hour, Internal Affairs arrived.
Hospital administrators immediately suspended Ethan.
His medical license was frozen pending investigation.
News stations exploded with headlines.
"Beloved Children's Doctor Suspected in Child Kidnapping."
Social media turned against him overnight.
Parents who once thanked him now demanded his arrest.
Outside the hospital, protesters gathered with signs reading:
"LOCK HIM UP!"
Rachel, still recovering under police protection, watched the news with tears in her eyes.
"They're doing exactly what they did to me," she whispered.
"They destroy anyone who gets too close."
Meanwhile...
Lily sat in a dark room somewhere underground.
A single light bulb flickered above her.
Across the room stood the woman who had pretended to be her mother.
She smiled coldly.
"You should have died from that fever."
Lily remained silent.
The woman leaned closer.
"Tell me where your real mother hid the flash drive."
Lily slowly looked up.
"I burned it."
The woman's smile disappeared.
She slapped Lily across the face.
Before she could strike again...
A calm male voice echoed from the shadows.
"Enough."
A tall man stepped into the light wearing an expensive black suit.
Every criminal in the room lowered their heads.
Even the fake mother looked terrified.
He stared directly at Lily.
Then he smiled.
"The child is lying."
He reached into his pocket and placed an old silver necklace on the table.
Rachel's necklace.
The one she had never taken off.
"If your mother doesn't give me the evidence within twenty-four hours..."
He looked Lily straight in the eyes.
"...I'll let her watch you die first."
Just as he turned to leave, his phone vibrated.
One message appeared on the screen.
"WARNING: Someone inside the organization has betrayed us."
The mysterious leader stopped walking.
Slowly...
He turned back toward Lily.
His eyes narrowed.
Because for the first time...
He realized the six-year-old girl wasn't the one they should have been afraid of.
