Chapter 6 - The Unholy Crown & The Final Twist

Three days later, the capital city was bathed in sunlight.

Thousands of citizens gathered in the grand plaza outside the Royal Palace, cheering and waving blue ribbons. The news of Queen Margaret's arrest and the discovery of King Alden's true decree had spread like wildfire through the streets.

Inside the High Cathedral, the lords and ladies of the realm stood in solemn silence.

At the center of the altar stood Princess Elena, wearing a magnificent gown of royal blue and silver. Beside her stood young Leo, washed and clothed in fine silk garments fit for a sovereign.

Lord Cassian held the Ancient Crown of the Kingdom on a velvet cushion.

"People of the Realm!" Elena announced, her voice booming through the holy halls. "The dark era of Queen Margaret has ended! Today, we fulfill my father's true wish and honor the bloodline of House Valerius! I present to you your rightful ruler, King Leo!"

The crowd inside the cathedral burst into wild applause and cheers. Lords bowed their heads, and noble ladies curtsied to the young boy.

Leo looked up at Elena, a bright, triumphant smile on his face. "We did it, Aunt Elena. We really did it."

Elena smiled down at him, resting a gentle hand on his shoulder. "Yes, sweet boy. You are home now."

Suddenly, a heavy set of iron doors at the back of the cathedral burst open.

The crowd fell completely silent as four high priests carried in a iron cage. Inside the cage, bound in heavy chains and wearing rags, sat former Queen Margaret. She was brought forth to hear her final judgment before the new King was officially crowned.

"Margaret of House Vance," Lord Cassian barked, his hand resting on his sword hilt. "You stand condemned of murder, high treason, and dark alchemy. Do you have any final words before you are sentenced to life in the dark mines?"

Margaret let out a dry, chilling laugh that sent shivers down the spines of everyone present. Her gray hair hung in wild strands around her pale, sunken face.

"You fools..." Margaret sneered, her crazy eyes locking directly onto Princess Elena. "You absolute, utter fools..."

Elena frowned, stepping toward the cage. "Your madness ends today, Margaret. The truth has been revealed. Leo has the birthmark. He has the crest. He is Julian's son!"

"Oh, he is Julian's son, alright!" Margaret laughed hysterically, her chains rattling violently against the iron bars. "Julian was my son, born of my blood! But do you know who gave birth to you, Elena?"

The cathedral dropped into a terrifying, total silence.

Elena froze, her blood turning to ice. "What... what are you talking about?"

Margaret leaned her face close to the iron bars, a sinister, twisted grin spreading across her cracked lips.

"Fifteen years ago, I didn't try to kill Julian," Margaret whispered, her voice carrying through the silent cathedral like poison. "My husband, King Alden, was infertile! He could never produce an heir! So I brought in a child from the Northern Wilderness—Julian. But when the King found out the child wasn't of royal blood, HE burned the nursery to destroy the proof of my infidelity!"

Gasps echoed through the crowd. Lord Cassian’s jaw dropped in sheer disbelief.

"Then... where did I come from?" Elena whispered, her voice trembling, tears streaming down her face.

Margaret’s grin widened into a terrifying mask of malice.

"You weren't King Alden's daughter, Elena," Margaret cackled, her voice echoing off the stained glass windows. "You were the daughter of the dark sorcerer of the Northern Wastes—the very man who cursed this kingdom! The birthmark on that boy isn't royal blood... it's the seal of the Dark Cult!"

Before anyone could move, young Leo’s eyes suddenly turned from warm brown to a blinding, fiery crimson.

The silver hairpin in his pocket began to glow with a dark, purplish light, cracking the marble altar beneath his feet. The child looked up at Elena, his small face twisting into a cold, terrifying smile that no child should ever possess.

"Thank you for bringing me to the throne, my dear Aunt..." Leo whispered, his voice suddenly echoing with the overlapping tones of a thousand demonic souls.

FINAL HOOK / TWIST: The orphan boy wasn't a hero saving the kingdom—he was the vessel of the ancient dark magic, and Princess Elena had just handed him the entire realm on a silver platter!
