Chapter 9 - A NEW FOUNDATIONThree months later, Vale Harbor Systems held its official global gala at the sleek, modern convention center in downtown Los Angeles, celebrating the record-breaking rollout of the Lattice platform across major international financial networks.

The grand ballroom was packed with tech titans, venture capitalists, global investors, and media moguls. Flashbulbs popped continuously as cameras flashed across the red carpet.
Ethan Vale stood at the center stage, wearing a sharp, tailored tuxedo, holding a wireless microphone. The crowd quieted instantly as he began his keynote address.
"For years, I believed that security was about building higher walls, stronger firewalls, and more complex encryption algorithms," Ethan spoke into the mic, his voice echoing clearly across the massive auditorium. "I believed that the most dangerous threats were the ones engineered by sophisticated minds in high-rise corner offices."
He paused, scanning the sea of attentive faces in the audience, before smiling gently toward the front row.
"I was wrong," Ethan continued. "True security isn't about technology. It's about perception. It's about noticing the little things that everyone else is too busy, too arrogant, or too blind to see. It’s about the people who quietly hold the world together when everything else is falling apart."
Ethan pointed directly toward the front row.
Sitting right there, dressed in a beautiful new cream-colored dress with a pink ribbon in her hair, was Lily Parker, sitting proudly beside her mother, Nora, who wore an elegant sapphire-blue gown.
"Tonight," Ethan said, his voice thick with emotion, "I want to honor two people who taught me the true meaning of loyalty, integrity, and sight. Nora and Lily Parker."
The entire auditorium erupted into a thunderous, standing ovation. Heads turned as hundreds of corporate leaders and investors rose to their feet, applauding vigorously.
Nora blushed deeply, covering her mouth with her hands as tears of joy streamed down her cheeks. Lily sat wide-eyed and stunned, clapping politely while the spotlight beamed down directly upon them.
Ethan walked down off the stage, holding a small, elegantly wrapped velvet box. He walked straight to the front row, knelt down in front of Lily, and opened the box.
Inside rested a stunning, custom-crafted silver pendant shaped like a tiny, intricate camera lens, embedded with a single, brilliant blue sapphire.
"For the best detective in Newport Coast," Ethan whispered warmly, placing the pendant gently into Lily's small hands.

Lily looked up at Ethan, her serious gray eyes sparkling with absolute delight. "Does this mean I'm officially part of your security team now, Mr. Ethan?"
"Officially," Ethan smiled, standing up and offering his hand to Nora, who took it with a radiant, confident smile. "Chief Security Advisor, effective immediately."
