Chapter 2 - THE COLD TRUTH IN THE KITCHENThe air in the tiny blue house suddenly felt too thin to breathe. Damian Morrison, a man who commanded global conglomerates with a single nod, stood frozen in the doorway, his designer overcoat contrasting sharply with the peeling wallpaper.

"What are you talking about, Margot?" Damian’s voice was a rough whisper. "My parents said you left because you wanted to pursue a career in nursing. They told me you didn't have enough time for a child."

Margot, her hands still trembling, reached out as if to touch him but pulled back, as if afraid he might shatter. "They lied, Damian. They lied to protect the empire they were building. They fired me because I caught your father meeting with people he shouldn't have been. Dangerous people."

Haley and Maya stood by the door, wide-eyed and silent, sensing the tectonic shift in the room.

"I saw things, Damian," Margot continued, her voice gaining strength. "I saw documents in the home office. I saw meetings at midnight. I tried to warn your mother, but she was trapped. When I threatened to go to the authorities, your father threatened to ruin me—and he did. He made sure I never worked in this city again. I lost everything, and I had to raise my own family in the shadows just to stay alive."

Damian felt a cold sweat break out on his neck. He remembered the long nights of his childhood, the feeling of being watched, the way his parents would abruptly silence conversations the moment he entered a room.

"Why tell me now?" Damian asked, his voice shaking.

Margot looked at Maya, then back at Damian. "Because look at her. Look at your own daughter. History is repeating itself, Damian. And if you don't wake up, you’re going to lose much more than your reputation."
