The house was empty.
Maya’s doll—the one Damian had given her—lay in the snow, its head ripped off.
"No!" Damian roared, sprinting into the house. He found a note on the kitchen table in Margot’s handwriting: They know. Run, Damian. Protect your own.
Damian’s phone rang. It was Haley’s private line.
"Dad!" Haley was screaming. "Dad, someone is in the house! They took Maya, and they said if you don't hand over the Sterling Server drive, they're going to take me too!"

Damian’s vision blurred. The Sterling Server—the one he’d found in his father’s hidden vault last night. It contained the evidence that would bring down the entire syndicate.
"Haley, listen to me," Damian said, forcing his voice to remain steady. "Go to the safe room. Lock it and don't come out. I’m coming."
