Chapter 4 - THE SIEGE OF MANHATTAN

The master bedroom erupted into blinding white light and a concussive roar that rattled the windows and shook the very foundation of the mansion.

Flash-bang!

The hitman screamed, dropping his rifle as he clutched his ringing ears and collapsed to his knees, blinded and disoriented. Marcus cursed loudly, stumbling backward as the sheer force of the blast knocked him off balance.

Julian Torino, veteran of a hundred underground wars, threw his arms up to shield his face, diving behind the heavy mahogany dresser as smoke and shrapnel filled the air.

"Clear the room! Secure the targets!" a chorus of deep, tactical voices echoed from the shattered balcony windows.

Heavy tactical boots slammed onto the balcony floor as a half-dozen heavily armed operatives in matte-black tactical gear, wearing night-vision goggles and carrying suppressed carbines, poured into the bedroom. They moved with terrifying, machine-like precision, sweeping the corners and neutralizing every potential threat in less than three seconds.

Marcus was slammed face-first onto the marble floor, his weapon kicked away into the darkness. A heavy boot pressed firmly between his shoulder blades, pinning him down.

"Get off me! Do you know who I am?!" Marcus shrieked, thrashing uselessly against the pavement.

"Shut up, rat," a gruff voice snapped as plastic zip-ties locked tightly around Marcus’s wrists.

Julian tried to scramble toward the hallway exit, dragging his injured leg, but two tactical operators cut him off instantly, pinning him against the wall with the cold barrels of their rifles pressed hard against his chest.

Vincent stood tall amidst the smoke and chaos, his expression impassive, his eyes fixed coldly on his resurrected brother.

Elena lowered her pistol, stepping smoothly past the pinned Marcus and walking up to the lead tactical operative, who pulled off his helmet to reveal the scarred, weathered face of Captain Miller—head of Interpol’s elite organized crime strike force.

"Took you long enough, Miller," Elena said smoothly, adjusting the collar of her maid's uniform as if she had just finished cleaning a kitchen counter.

Miller offered a grim, respectful nod. "We had to wait for your green light, Agent Vance. You gave the word the moment Marcus opened the safe."

Julian’s eyes widened in shock as he stared at Elena. "Agent... Vance? You’re federal?"

"Interpol, actually," Elena—or rather, Special Agent Vance—replied, walking over to stand beside Vincent. "We’ve been tracking the Syndicate of Nine’s money laundering operations through your shell companies for four years, Julian. You thought you outsmarted the world by faking your death. In reality, you just walked right back into an international net."

Vincent turned his cold, piercing gaze toward his brother. The betrayal burned, but the clarity was absolute. Every doubt, every lingering shred of family loyalty was shattered into dust.

"You really thought you could take everything I built?" Vincent asked softly, stepping closer to Julian until he was towering directly over him.

Julian spat a glob of blood onto the floor, glaring up with hatred in his eyes. "Go to hell, Vincent. You were always just my shadow."

"No, Julian," Vincent replied, his voice dropping an octave, heavy with finality. "I was the storm. And you just stepped back into it."

Before Julian could answer, Miller stepped forward. "Take them both away. Transport them to the black-site facility. The federal prosecutors have enough RICO charges on these two to bury them under a prison for the rest of their natural lives."

As the tactical team hauled Marcus kicking and screaming, and Julian glaring with impotent rage out of the master bedroom, Vincent stood alone in the center of the wreckage.

Except he wasn't alone.

Elena turned to look at him, her expression softening slightly from the hardened federal agent back into the woman who had served him coffee every morning.

"Well, Mr. Torino," she said quietly. "It looks like you need a new maid."
