Chapter 6 - BROTHER’S BLOOD

The eastern wing of the mansion was a war zone. Priceless art pieces hung in shreds, bullet holes pocking the Venetian plaster walls.
Caden moved through the shadows like a ghost, his suppressed rifle tracking every corner. He didn't need to hunt Julian's men; they were hunting him, drawn like moths to a flame toward the grand study at the end of the hall.
As Caden reached the double oak doors of the study, they blew inward.
Through the smoke strolled Julian Voss—taller, leaner, wearing an expensive grey suit that remained immaculate despite the chaos. In his hand, he held a sleek, military-grade detonator.
"It’s over, Caden," Julian laughed, his voice echoing off the vaulted ceilings. "The port authority is backing my faction by morning. Your guards are routed. And those three little bastards in your vault? They'll make wonderful orphans once the structural charges beneath this cliff go off."
Caden stepped out of the shadows into the moonlight streaming through the shattered floor-to-ceiling windows. He didn't raise his rifle. He just looked at his brother with a pity so profound it made Julian’s smile falter.
"You always were impatient, Julian," Caden said softly. "You wanted my empire because you couldn't build your own."
"I built a smarter one," Julian hissed, his thumb hovering over the detonator button. "Say goodbye to your legacy, brother."
Julian slammed his thumb down on the trigger.
Click.
Nothing happened.
Julian blinked, staring down at the device in disbelief, pressing the button repeatedly. The indicator light remained dead.
From the doorway behind Julian, a quiet, metallic click echoed through the room.
"You forgot Rule One of syndicate warfare, Julian," Ortega’s voice drawled from the shadows, the barrel of a heavy sniper rifle pressed firmly against the back of Julian's skull. "Never trust an IT contractor who values his pension more than your family."
Caden walked slowly forward, stopping inches from his paralyzed brother.

"You stole my children," Caden whispered, his voice dropping into a register that made the air freeze. "You broke a mother's heart. And worst of all, you made a mess of my house."
With a single, devastating punch, Caden drove his fist straight into Julian’s jaw, sending his brother crashing backward through the antique mahogany desk into a heap of splintered wood and broken glass.
