Chapter 3 - THE IMPOSSIBLE CHALLENGEThe backlash against Emma reached a boiling point. Sponsors gave her an ultimatum: either she publicly apologize and challenge Sarah to an official exhibition match at the upcoming Grand Masters Cup, or every single contract would be terminated immediately.
Driven by ego and terrified of losing her empire of fame, Emma chose to fight back. She held an emergency press conference, broadcasted live around the globe.
"I admit my reaction that day was unprofessional," Emma stated putting on a fake, tearful smile for the cameras. "But sport shooting is about discipline, pressure, and formal competition—not theatrical stunts with someone else's gun. Therefore, I publicly challenge Sarah to a three-round duel at the Grand Masters Championship. Let’s see if a retired janitor can handle real pressure on a global stage."
The internet exploded. The pressure shifted entirely to Sarah.
In a modest apartment on the outskirts of the city, Sarah sat in the dark, staring at a small wooden box on her desk. Inside rested a silver medal and a faded photograph of her smiling teenage brother holding a target sheet.
Her phone rang. It was her uncle, Inspector Vance.
"You don't have to do this, Sarah," Vance said gently over the line. "Emma is trying to bait you to save her own skin. You owe nobody anything."
Sarah touched the glass of the photo frame. Tears glistened in her eyes, but her hands were completely steady.
"She called people like me losers, Uncle," Sarah whispered softly. "She thinks people who clean floors, drive buses, or work in the shadows don't deserve respect. My brother gave his life so arrogant people like her could live in peace and shoot targets for money."
She closed the wooden box with a firm click.
"I'm not doing this for revenge," Sarah said, her voice turning into steel. "I'm doing it to teach her—and the world—what true marksmanship really means."
