Chapter 5 - The Family Secret

The revelation hit Clara like a physical blow.
Her father, Charles Montgomery, was supposed to have died when she was a child. He was the founder of Montgomery Medical, the company that merged with Vance Enterprises thirty years ago. Her entire life—her marriage to Julian, her wealth, her position—had been built on the legacy of a dead man.
Except he wasn't dead.
"He lied to you your whole life, Clara," Julian said softly, stepping closer to her. "Your father didn't die of illness. He faked his death to work in the black-market bio-weapons trade. When I discovered the truth five years ago, he ordered the hit on my car. He used Richard as his puppet."
"No..." Clara shook her head in disbelief. "My father loved me. He wouldn't..."
"He didn't want you dead," Leo, the little boy, piped up suddenly. "My mom said the big boss kept you paralyzed because he wanted to keep you safe from the other bad men. He thought if you stayed in the chair, no one would see you as a threat."
A sickening realization washed over Clara. Her paralysis wasn't just a corporate takeover—it was a twisted, monstrous form of 'protection' designed by a narcissistic father who viewed her as a piece of property to be kept locked in a golden cage.
Suddenly, the silent alarms around the warehouse perimeter flared red.
On the laptop screen connected to the security feeds, dozens of tactical vehicles were pulling up outside the docks. Armed men in unmarked black armor were fanning out, breaching the doors with explosive charges.
"They found us," Julian said, drawing two pistols from his coat. "Arthur, take Clara and the boy through the old sewer line under the floor."
"I'm not running anymore, Julian!" Clara shouted, grabbing a metal pipe from the ground. "I spent five years trapped in my own body because of these men. I am not going back into the dark!"
"Clara, look at me," Julian said, grabbing her face gently with his scarred hands. "This isn't a battle we win with steel pipes. The thumb drive contains the master key to Charles’s offshore financial network. If you release it to the international press tonight, his entire operation crumbles. You are the only one who can push the button."
BOOM!
The heavy steel doors of the warehouse blew inward with a deafening roar. Smoke filled the air as flashbangs detonated, blinding and deafening everyone inside.

Through the haze, heavy footsteps echoed. A tall, elderly man with silver hair, impeccably tailored suit, and a gold-topped cane walked into the burning room.
"Clara," Charles Montgomery’s cold, melodic voice cut through the smoke. "Stand down, darling. Daddy's home."
