Chapter 4 - The Boardroom Ambush: The Moment I Walked in and Swiped the CEO Chair Back!

The headquarters of Apex Development was buzzing with excitement. It was the day of the annual shareholder meeting, where Robert was set to announce the acquisition of my former company and declare himself the undisputed king of the local real estate market.

I stood outside the double glass doors of the grand boardroom, dressed in a stunning, custom-tailored emerald green suit. My hair was styled in a sharp, flawless bob, and on my feet were Christian Louboutin heels that clicked like a countdown to doom against the polished marble floor—the very marble floor I had once chosen.

Beside me stood Mr. Sterling and four burly security guards in dark suits.

Inside, Robert was standing at the head of the long mahogany table, smiling warmly as his mother, Beatrice, sat nearby, sipping champagne. My stepmother, Vivian, was also there, having invested a portion of her socialite funds into Robert’s new venture to secure a seat on the advisory board.

“We are on the cusp of a new era,” Robert’s voice boomed through the door. “With the acquisition of Vance Assets, our valuation will triple by the end of the fiscal year—”

I didn’t knock.

The security guards pushed the heavy doors open with a dramatic bang.

The room fell dead silent.

Robert froze mid-sentence, his champagne glass hovering near his mouth. His mother, Beatrice, gasped so loudly she choked on her drink. Vivian’s face drained of all color, her eyes bulging.

“Elena?” Robert stammered, his eyes scanning my emerald suit, my pristine makeup, and the absolute aura of power radiating from me. “What... what are you doing here? Security! How did this bankrupt woman get past the lobby?”

“I wouldn't call the guards if I were you, Robert,” I said, my voice calm, smooth, and deadly. I walked slowly down the length of the table, the clicking of my heels echoing in the silence. “Because technically, they work for me now.”

“Are you insane?” Beatrice sneered, standing up. “You’re a disgraced, penniless divorcée! You belong in a homeless shelter, not our boardroom!”

I stopped at the head of the table, right next to Robert. I placed my designer leather briefcase on the table and popped the gold clasps.

“As of 9:00 AM today,” Mr. Sterling announced, stepping forward and distributing a stack of documents to the board members, “C.V. Holdings has executed its right of debt-to-equity conversion. Due to Apex Development's default on its $80 million bond payment this morning, C.V. Holdings is now the majority shareholder, owning 66% of this company.”

“That's impossible!” Robert shouted, grabbing the papers, his hands shaking as he scanned the signatures. “Who the hell is C.V. Holdings?!”

I leaned in close to him, whispering so the entire room could hear:

“Clara Vance, Robert. My mother. And I am the sole owner of the trust.”
