Chapter 6 - The Ultimate Betrayal Unravels: Forcing Robert to His Knees in Public!

The media had caught wind of the drama. By the time Robert was led out of the building in handcuffs, the lobby was packed with reporters, flashing cameras, and news crews.
Beatrice, Robert’s arrogant mother, ran after him, crying and screaming at the reporters. When she saw me standing at the top of the grand marble staircase, looking down at them like a queen on her throne, she ran up the stairs, desperately grabbing at my suit.
“Elena! Please!” she begged, her voice cracking, her expensive jewelry clinking loudly. “You loved him! You can’t do this to our family! We will lose everything! The mansion, the reputation... please, have mercy!”
I looked down at her hand on my sleeve. I didn't pull away violently, the way Robert had done to me. I simply looked at her with utter indifference.
I reached into my pocket, pulled out a crisp, fifty-dollar bill, and let it flutter down onto her expensive leather purse.
“Find a subway station to sleep in,” I said softly. “Pride doesn’t keep you warm in the rain, Beatrice.”
She froze, her face turning pale as she realized I had returned her own cruel words back to her.
Robert, handcuffed and escorted by officers, looked up at me from the bottom of the stairs. The man who had sneered at me in my moments of deepest grief was now trembling, his eyes begging for a savior.
“Elena...” he whimpered.

“Take him away,” I ordered the officers.
As the cameras flashed, capturing the fall of the city’s golden boy and the miraculous rise of his "bankrupt" wife, I felt the last remnants of my past pain wash away.
