Chapter 5 - The Public ExecutionBy 8:00 AM, the financial news networks were in a feeding frenzy.

Bloomberg, CNBC, and the front pages of every major financial daily carried the same shocking headline: HARGROVE HOLDINGS COLLAPSES: FRAUD SCANDAL EXPOSES CENTURY-OLD DYNASTY TO SUDDEN BANKRUPTCY.
Inside the sleek, sunlit penthouse office on the 70th floor of Vance Tower, I stood by the floor-to-ceiling glass windows, sipping a cup of black coffee as I watched the helicopters circling the Hargrove headquarters across the city.
Julian walked into the office, placing a tablet on my desk.
"The morning press conference is about to begin, Miss Vance. The media is demanding a statement from the majority shareholder regarding the restructuring of Hargrove assets."
"Let them come up," I said softly, not turning around. "Has Grant arrived?"
"He's downstairs in the lobby," Julian replied, a slight smirk playing at the corner of his mouth. "Security tried to throw him out, but he forced his way past the front desk. He’s heading up the private elevator right now."
"Let him in."
A few minutes later, the private elevator chime dinged.
The heavy glass doors slid open, and Grant stumbled out. He looked like a ghost of the man he had been last night. His expensive suit was wrinkled, his hair was messy, and his eyes were bloodshot and wild.
"Clara!" he cried out, taking a frantic step toward my desk before security guards in black suits stepped in, blocking his path. "Clara, please! You have to stop this! The police are at the mansion! They're seizing everything—our art collection, the cars, even mother's jewelry! They said it was all purchased with embezzled funds!"
I turned around slowly, setting my coffee cup down on the glass desk. I looked at him not with anger, not with hatred, but with complete, crushing indifference.
"It was," I said quietly. "Every single luxury you flaunted, every expensive suit, every party you threw to impress your mistress—it was all funded by my father’s capital. You were living on borrowed money, Grant. And more importantly, on borrowed time."
Grant fell to his knees on the polished hardwood floor.
The exact same posture he had ordered me into just twelve hours ago.
"I'm sorry," he wept, pressing his forehead against the floor. "I was arrogant. I was stupid. I let Vanessa get into my head. Please, Clara... take the company, take everything, just don't send me to prison. Please."
I walked around the desk, stopping just inches from where he was kneeling. I looked down at him, my expression unreadable.
"When you told me to get on my knees last night," I said, my voice echoing softly in the vast penthouse, "you thought you were destroying a weak, dependent wife. You forgot one fundamental rule of business, Grant."
May you like
I paused, looking out at the city skyline where the Hargrove corporate sign was currently being dismantled by construction crews.
"Never underestimate the person holding the lease on your entire existence."
