Chapter 5 - The Chaos at Manhattan PrivateBy 2:13 in the morning, the private maternity wing of Manhattan General looked like a war zone.

Outside, the snowstorm howled against the reinforced glass, burying the city in feet of white powder. Inside, the sterile hallways buzzed with hushed whispers. Nurses and resident physicians spoke in terrified tones as the billionaire’s entourage descended upon the floor.

Celeste lay in a pristine hospital bed, her face pale, damp with sweat, and twisted in pain. Her hands gripped the metal rails so hard her knuckles were stark white.

“Where is he?” she whimpered, her voice cracking as another contraction wracked her small frame. “Nurse Holiday... where is Rhett?”

“He’s on his way, sweetheart. Just breathe,” the nurse urged, checking the monitors. “The baby is coming fast. Too fast. Her blood pressure is spiking, doctor!”

Before the obstetrician could panic, the heavy double doors of the maternity suite blew open with a deafening bang.

Wind and snow swirled into the sterile hallway. Standing in the threshold was Rhett Blackwood.

He looked like a man who had walked straight through the gates of hell to get there. His dark coat was soaked with melted snow, his hair wild and windblown, and his eyes bloodshot and blazing with a terrifying intensity. Right behind him marched three high-powered corporate lawyers carrying briefcases, desperately trying to keep up, followed closely by Julian Vance in his pristine cashmere coat.

“Mr. Blackwood! You can’t just storm in here—this is a restricted surgical ward!” a senior administrator shouted, rushing forward.

Rhett didn't even look at him. His entire world narrowed down to the bed in the center of the room.
