Chapter 7 - SpeechlessTotal, suffocating silence descended upon the room.

The lawyers stared in absolute horror, their mouths hanging open. Vance looked like he had just been struck by lightning, his face turning an unhealthy shade of purple.
“Are you out of your absolute mind?!” Vance shrieked, breaking the silence. “You’re throwing away a fifty-billion-dollar valuation for a broke nobody from Pennsylvania?! The board will oust you by sunrise! You’ll lose everything!”
Rhett slowly turned his head toward Vance. The look in his eyes made the senior partner take two involuntary steps back.
“If you say one more word,” Rhett whispered, his voice like sliding glaciers, “I will personally throw you through that reinforced glass window into the blizzard. Get out of my sight. All of you. Now.”
The lawyers didn't wait for a second warning. They grabbed Vance by the arms and dragged him backward out of the room, the heavy doors swinging shut behind them with a muffled thud.
Nurse Holiday blinked in astonishment, quickly grabbed her clipboard, and tactfully ushered the medical staff out into the hallway, leaving just the two of them in the quiet sanctuary of the room.
Celeste was shaking, her chest heaving as she stared at the man standing beside her bed.

“Why?” she whispered, her voice breaking. “You... you could lose everything.”
Rhett didn't answer with words. He walked slowly to the side of the bed, dropped his soaked coat onto a chair, and sank down onto his knees right beside her mattress.
