Chapter 6 - The Torn ContractVance pushed his way past the lawyers, clutching a pen and a fresh stack of documents.

“Rhett, listen to reason!” Vance yelled over the sound of the heart monitor beeping rhythmically in the background. “We have the updated liability waivers! Once she signs away all residual claims under the newly discovered purity clauses, we shield the corporation from liability! Sign it now before the press catches wind of the surrogate’s status!”

Celeste heard the words. Purity clauses. Liability. Surrogate status.

Tears spilled hot and fast down her pale cheeks. She looked at Rhett, her heart shattering into a thousand jagged pieces. So that was why he was here. Not because he cared about her, but because his precious empire was at risk. Because she had lied by omission, and now the great Rhett Blackwood had come to force her signature on the final papers before she even held her baby.

“I... I won't sign it,” Celeste choked out, her voice trembling as she pressed her hand protectively over her swollen belly. “Take your baby, Mr. Blackwood. Just... just leave me alone.”

Rhett stopped dead in his tracks.

He looked at the terrified young woman in the bed, then down at Vance, who was shoving a pen into his hand.

For a long, agonizing moment, absolute silence fell over the room. Even the heart monitor seemed to slow down.

Then, Rhett’s expression darkened into something demonic.

He snatched the leather folder and the stack of papers straight out of Vance’s hands. With a sharp, violent motion, he ripped the entire contract down the middle, tearing it into shreds. He ripped it again, and again, letting the snowy white confetti flutter uselessly down onto the hospital floor.

“Cancel everything,” Rhett said, his voice echoing off the tile walls with bone-chilling clarity. “I don’t want an heir without her mother.”
