Chapter 10 - Silence and SymphonySix months later, Winterglass House was glowing once again under a blanket of pristine December snow.

Inside, the restaurant was warm, filled with the soft hum of conversation and the gentle, melodic notes of a live pianist near the stone fireplace.

At a corner table by the window—the exact same table from six months ago—four people sat together.

June and Elsie were busy arguing over the proper distribution of whipped cream on their hot chocolates, their hands flying in rapid, animated ASL.

"Dad says if we eat too much sugar, our ears will whistle," June signed solemnly.

Elsie snorted. "Ears don't whistle. They buzz like broken radios."

Ethan laughed, shaking his head as he signed back, "I never said anything about radios. I said you’ll bounce off the walls."

Clara sat across from Ethan, wearing a sleek silver silk dress, a genuine, radiant smile lighting up her face. The heavy burden of corporate isolation, the ghosts of the past, and the fear of rejection were entirely gone.

She looked around the restaurant. She couldn't hear the pianist playing near the fire, but she didn't need to.

She felt the rich, warm vibration of the music through the polished oak floorboards. She saw it in the relaxed curve of Ethan’s shoulders, in the bright, laughing eyes of the twins, and in the quiet, perfect texture of the silence that surrounded them.

Ethan reached across the table, his calloused, scarred fingers intertwining with hers.

He didn't need to sign anything. Clara read the words written clearly in the warmth of his grip and the deep, unwavering devotion in his eyes.

June reached into her coat pocket, pulled out a fresh, perfectly folded paper star made from clean white cardstock, and slid it across the table toward Clara.

"For when you never feel alone again," Elsie signed, grinning proudly.

Clara picked up the star, pressing it gently against her palm.

She looked at Ethan, then at the two little girls who had changed her world, and finally out the frost-covered window where the Seattle skyline of Asterline Tower rose tall and proud against the winter night sky.

Silence was never emptiness.

Tonight, silence was a symphony.
