Chapter 3 - The Boardroom AmbushThe mahogany doors of the forty-first-floor executive boardroom were locked from the inside.

Inside, the air smelled of expensive scotch and cold sweat. Arthur Sterling—a man in his late sixties with silver hair slicked back and shark-like eyes—sat at the head of the long glass table. Next to him, Julian tapped nervously on his tablet, watching the progress bar of a massive data transfer crawl across the screen.
94%... 95%... 96%...
"Are you sure the firewall bypass won't trigger an automatic lockdown?" Arthur asked, his voice gravelly and impatient.
"Positive," Julian sneered, swirling amber liquid in his crystal glass. "Clara is too busy brooding in her office over that emotional breakdown at Winterglass House. By morning, the board will vote to approve the emergency restructuring due to her 'medical incapacity,' and we’ll control fifty-one percent of the voting shares. Asterline will be ours, Dad. Every penny of it."
Suddenly, the heavy boardroom doors didn't just open—they slammed violently against the interior walls, shattering the hydraulic hinges.
Arthur and Julian jerked around in their chairs.
Clara walked into the boardroom, flanked not by security, but by Ethan Calder, who wore his maintenance jacket with a quiet, lethal confidence. Behind them strode two federal agents from the Department of Corporate Fraud and Cyber Security, their badges gleaming under the recessed lighting.
"Game over, Julian," Clara signed, her hands cutting through the air with absolute authority as her voice rang out clear and cold across the silent room.
Julian jumped to his feet, his face turning pale. "Clara! What is the meaning of this? Guards! Remove these intruders!"
"There are no guards coming, Mr. Sterling," one of the federal agents stepped forward, flashing an arrest warrant. "Arthur Sterling and Julian Sterling, you are under arrest for corporate espionage, wire fraud, intellectual property theft, and the intentional suppression of safety disclosures dating back to Aegis Labs."
Arthur remained seated, though his fingers gripped the arms of his leather chair until his knuckles turned white. He slowly turned his gaze toward Ethan, his eyes widening in sudden, horrified recognition.
"You..." Arthur whispered, his voice cracking. "You died in that lab."
Ethan walked slowly toward the head of the table, stopping just inches from Arthur. He didn't yell. He didn't strike him. Instead, he slowly unzipped his work jacket, revealing a high-security federal investigator’s badge clipped to his inner shirt pocket.
"The reports of my death," Ethan signed coldly, his eyes burning with a lifetime of vengeance, "were greatly exaggerated by your PR team."
Julian panicked, lunging toward the main console to abort the data transfer. "Dad, do something! Stop them!"
Before Julian’s fingers could hit the keyboard, the room’s smart-glass windows suddenly flickered.
The glowing blue city skyline outside vanished, replaced entirely by a massive, high-definition corporate display across all forty-two floors of Asterline Tower.

Every employee terminal, every conference room screen, and every public lobby monitor simultaneously lit up with a single, un-deletable broadcast stream: real-time audio and video recordings of Arthur and Julian Sterling plotting the hostile takeover and admitting to the sabotage of Aegis Labs six years prior.
The entire company—all four thousand employees—was watching live.
