Chapter 2 - The Shocking Revelation

"You can't arrest me for a domestic dispute based on a hidden camera!" Daniel yelled, backing away toward the window. "My lawyers will have that thrown out of court before the sun comes up!"

"We aren't here for the assault, Mr. Sterling-Hayes," one of the suits said, flashing an FBI badge. "We are here for international money laundering, corporate espionage, and the deliberate embezzlement of state-funded medical grants."

Daniel stopped breathing. He looked at Vanessa, whose eyes were wide with pure terror.

"Daniel..." Vanessa whimpered. "What is he talking about? You said the money in the offshore account was from your tech exit!"

My father laughed, a sound devoid of any warmth. "He lied to you too, Vanessa. Just like he lied to my daughter for seven years. Daniel didn't build a tech empire. He used my company as a front to wash money for a cartel syndicate operating out of Eastern Europe. And do you want to know the best part, Daniel?"

Arthur stepped closer, leaning in so only Daniel could hear the final blow, though the microphone on my gown picked it up perfectly.

"The offshore account you’ve been funneling all those stolen millions into? The one you thought was safely registered under a shell corporation in the Cayman Islands? It doesn't belong to you anymore. It never did."

"What did you do?" Daniel hissed, his hands shaking.

"Seven months ago, when Claire first came to me with suspicions of your infidelity, I didn't just hire a private investigator. I bought the bank," Arthur whispered. "Every single dollar you stole from my daughter, from my company, and from your investors has been legally seized by the federal government. You are completely, utterly bankrupt."

Vanessa screamed. She turned on Daniel, her manicured nails clawing at his face. "You broke! You told me we were going to be billionaires! You told me she was going to sign everything over tonight!"
