Chapter 5 - THE FORGED IDENTITY

Title: The Mask Stripped Away
Julian quickly pulled up the digital legal documents on the boardroom projector screen. His eyes scanned the signature line frantically.
Where Michael Carter's biometric signature should have been, there was an encrypted block of code—along with a legal affidavit stamped by the International Criminal Court.
"What is this?!" Julian screamed.
"Three years ago, when Vanessa first entered my life, my security team flagged her suspicious background," Michael explained, pulling a chair out and calmly sitting down. "I let her close to me to find out who was pulling her strings. The woman you call Vanessa isn't Vanessa at all."
Michael gestured to an SEC officer, who pulled up a mugshot on the screen.
"Her real name is Elena Rostova," Michael stated. "An international corporate spy wanted in four countries for poisoning high-profile executives and liquidating their assets. The real Vanessa died five years ago in Geneva."
Julian dropped into his chair, his skin turning gray. "No... no..."
"Every document she signed for you over the last three years is legally void because her identity is a fraud," Michael continued. "Every dollar you transferred into her accounts was automatically routed into a federal sting escrow account. You didn't steal my company, Julian. You spent fifty million dollars of your own money funding an FBI investigation against yourself."
Julian suddenly pulled a hidden pocket pistol from his coat, aiming it straight at Michael’s chest. "I’ll kill you myself!"
BANG!
Before Julian could pull the trigger, Marcus breached the side door, firing a single shot that struck Julian’s wrist. The gun clattered to the floor, and Julian crumpled to the ground, screaming in pain as officers tackled him.
As Julian was dragged away in handcuffs, he glared at Michael. "You think this is over?! You don't know who’s behind this! I was just a pawn! The real master of the Syndicate will wipe your family off the face of the earth!"

Michael walked over to Julian, leaning down close to his ear. "Let them try. But as for you... you will spend the rest of your life in a dark, forgotten cell."
With Julian secured, Michael turned to Marcus. "Take me back to my kids."
