Chapter 5 - The Reckoning at the Docks

Rain poured through the shattered windshield of the overturned van. Victor Blackwood was groaning, pinned beneath the collapsed dashboard, his leg visibly broken. The driver was unconscious, slumped over the deflated airbag.
Grace blinked through the dizziness, her ears ringing. "Noah..." she gasped, checking the little boy beneath her. Noah was crying, shaken, but miraculously uninjured due to Grace cushioning the impact.
The side door of the van groaned and was violently ripped upward.
Henry stood there, drenched in rain, blood dripping from a deep gash on his forehead. His elegant tuxedo was torn to shreds, and his eyes were wild, like a wolf protecting its pack. In his right hand, he held a sleek, black service pistol he had taken from the mansion's security detail.
"Grace! Noah!" Henry yelled, reaching his arms into the overturned vehicle.
"Henry!" Grace cried, tears mingling with the rain on her face. She passed Noah up to him first. Henry caught his son, holding him against his chest for a brief, agonizing second before handing him safely to Arthur’s personal bodyguard, who had just arrived in a black SUV behind them.
Henry reached back into the van, his strong hands locking around Grace’s waist. He pulled her out of the wreckage, lifting her effortlessly into the downpour. The moment her feet touched the ground, Grace collapsed against his chest, her hands gripping his soaked jacket.
"You came," she sobbed. "The nurse... she said you knew. She said you planned it all."
Henry held her face in his hands, his eyes burning with absolute sincerity. "Look at me, Grace. I swear on my son’s life, I never knew. They stole Eleanor from me, they stole you from Noah, and they made me a prisoner of their lies. I will never let them hurt you again."
"Henry..." a pathetic, strained voice called out from inside the van. Victor Blackwood dragged himself halfway out of the broken window, his face covered in mud and blood. "You... you fool. You think you’ve won? The docks are surrounded by my men. You'll never get out of this harbor alive."
Henry walked slowly toward Victor, the gun held steady at his side. He looked down at the billionaire who had controlled his life for three years.
"Your men aren't coming, Victor," Henry said, his voice deadly calm. "While you were driving here, my grandfather transferred 60% of our liquidity to a private military security firm. Your mercenaries were bought out ten minutes ago. Right now, federal agents are raiding the Blackwood estate. Your daughter is in a maximum-security holding cell. And you... you are going to spend the rest of your miserable life in a cage."
Victor’s face twisted in desperate rage. He reached into his coat pocket, pulling out a small, silver derringer pistol, aiming it straight at Henry’s chest. "If I go down, I'm taking the Whitmore legacy with me!"
BANG!
A shot echoed across the dark harbor.
Victor gasped, his gun falling from his hand as a bullet shattered his shoulder. He collapsed back onto the wet asphalt, howling in pain.
Henry didn't even blink. He lowered his weapon and turned his back on Victor, walking straight back to Grace and Noah. He wrapped his long coat around Grace’s shivering shoulders and guided her toward the waiting SUV.

"It's over," Henry whispered against her ear as the sirens of dozens of police cars began to wail in the distance, their red and blue lights reflecting off the dark, churning ocean. "It's finally over."
CRITICAL HOOK TO THE NEXT CHAPTER:Six months later. The storm has passed, and a beautiful, private wedding is taking place on the cliffs overlooking the Whitmore estate. But just as the priest asks if anyone objects to the union of Henry and Grace, a delivery boy walks down the aisle, handing Grace a beautifully wrapped gift box. Inside is a positive DNA test—and a note written in familiar, elegant handwriting: "Did you really think Eleanor died, Henry? Look out the window."
