Chapter 2 - The Ghost of the Burning Estate

Viral Hook: "The DNA test took two hours. The truth shattered a five-year-old grave."Inside the armored back seat of Marcus's Mercedes-Maybach, the silence was deafening. The little boy sat on the pristine leather, leaving smears of mud and soot on the custom upholstery. He was clutching his mutilated teddy bear, trying to stuff the loose cotton back into its torn spine with dirty fingers.
Marcus watched him through the rearview mirror. "What is your name, boy?"
The child didn't look up. "Leo."
"Who gave you that bear, Leo?"
"My mommy. Before the bad fire. Before the men with the masks came." The boy's voice was barely a whisper, yet it struck Marcus like a physical blow.
Five years ago, Julian Lycan—Marcus’s younger brother and the CFO of Lycan International—had perished in a devastating arson attack along with his wife, Elena. Their two-year-old son, Julian Jr., was presumed reduced to ashes. The tragedy had hardened Marcus, turning him from a ruthless businessman into a reclusive, paranoid tyrant who trusted no one.
The car arrived at the high-security Lycan Penthouse overlooking Central Park. Within thirty minutes, Dr. Harrison, Marcus’s highly paid personal physician, arrived with a mobile DNA sequencing kit.
"I need a cheek swab from the boy, and a drop of your blood, Marcus," Dr. Harrison said, his hands trembling slightly under the intense gaze of his employer.
While they waited for the rapid-sequencer to process the genetic material, Marcus sat across from the boy in his vast, minimalist living room. He had ordered his staff to bring a platter of roast chicken and mashed potatoes. Leo ate like a wild animal, tearing at the meat with his bare hands, his eyes darting toward the doors every time a shadow moved.
"The woman at the restaurant," Marcus said softly, lowering his usual defensive wall. "Why did she want to hurt me?"
"She didn't know I was watching," Leo swallowed hard, his face streaked with dried tears. "She lives in the big gray house where they keep me. She said you have to go away so the 'True King' can take the throne. She had a little bottle. She laughed when she put it in the kitchen tray."
The True King. The phrase sent chills down Marcus’s spine. It was a secret title used only within the inner circle of the Lycan Board of Directors—a corporate cult founded by Marcus’s grandfather.
Suddenly, the DNA sequencer emitted a sharp electronic chime. Dr. Harrison walked into the room, his face completely pale. He held a tablet with the results.
"Marcus..." Harrison breathed, his voice cracking. "It’s impossible. The ash samples from five years ago were certified by the city coroner..."
"Speak, Harrison!" Marcus roared, losing his composure.
"The boy. He is a 99.9% familial match. He isn't an orphan from the streets, Marcus. He is Julian Jr. Your nephew. He survived the fire."

Marcus sank back into his armchair, his mind spinning. If Leo was alive, it meant the fire wasn't an accident or a random hit by competitors. It was a kidnapping. Someone had kept his nephew alive in squalor for five long years, waiting for the perfect moment to deploy him—or eliminate Marcus.
Before Marcus could wrap his head around the truth, the penthouse’s primary security alarms began to wail. The armored glass windows of the penthouse groaned under a sudden, immense pressure.
